 Underfolder vs fixed stocks

I've got a Yugo underfolder AK. Shoots fine and has less than 500 rds down it. But I just don't like the stock. I can't get a comfortable position shooting it.

Are the fixed stocked AK's better? Should I consider selling or trading the yugo for a fixed stock? Heck would anybody even want to?

I have the triangle sidefolder on my 74 and I have the same problem as well, one day I'll either swap it or sell it

I am pretty sure it requires a trunnion change, If you want to try a different one. I have a couple of versions of fixed and a folder as well the folder stiffer but way cooler and that is all that matters.

Well swapping out the stock is probably a no go from the git go. With the underfolder pivot holes it'd look like balls.

I have several AK's in various configurations. Everything from underfolder, synthetic stock, wood stock, synthetic folder, triangle folder, & wire folder. I would have to rank the underfolder as my least favorite stock (but all AK enthusiasts need at least one in the collection ). For regular shooting, I much prefer the solid stocks and triangle folders.

You cannot easily convert the underfolder, so as you said you need to sell or trade. You should have no problem selling it. Are you not familiar with the feeding frenzy since the election?! You could probably sell your AK for a ridiculous amount if you wanted.

Here's a great example of the insanity we have reached. This is a Yugo Underfolder that sold on Gunbroker for $2,351!!!:

If you don't like it I would recommend looking to trade it , in theory it is worth more then a fixed stock AK(for collectors more so then shooters) say you should be able to find someone to do a trade + cash. A lot easier then having your AK made into a fixed stock variant. Honestly I hate the feel of the underfolder but I love the way they look which is why my next AK will be a build up of my Polish underfolder kit. I'd recommend going with a fixed stock or a Bulgarian side folder, the advantage of the Bulgarian side folder is that if you hate the feel of the triangle side folder, you can replace it with a solid side-folding stock that looks and feels just like the fixed stock and is made of solid polymer. So with that set up you get the best of both worlds. There is also the East German wire side folder which isn't that comfortable but it uses a fixed stock trunion so if you hate it you can just put a standard AKM stock back on it, I've found that while not that comfortable the EG stock for some reason seems to grip my shoulder better then other AK stocks and I've been able to shoot some AKs more accurately with one.

you can weld those back up.

I have a yugo underfoler and really like it. you can wrap the stock with paracord on the cheek side. it helps a little. mainly just stops it from being so cold.

I have a romy G that I build I will trade you for it

look for one of the AMD65 kits to build. I like the stock on them (but then again I like the stock on the underfolder)

that will be my next build after I save up some money.

I may put up a WTT ad in the EE and see if anything strikes my fancy. It's a good shooter with normal accuracy for an AK. Just can't get over the stock.
