Going to be visiting the Charlotte area
I will just be there for the weekend of the 12-13 or May. Visiting my Dad and Step Mom and they live near the SC border. Will be staying in Rock Hill, SC.
What gun shops should I check out in the area, and which ones to avoid? No Fudd shops please.
Wouldn't mind hitting up an IPSC, IDPA or 3 gun match there too. Anything like that going on in the area that weekend?
Thanks.

Looking on line, Carolina Sporting Arms looks like a good shop with lots of positive reviews.
What are your thoughts on that place?
Carolina Sporting Arms is ok it's the same as many other gun store.
Hyatt Guns is the largest and has most variety of guns to look at but in my opinion it's also the most expensive.

The one I goes to the most is shooter express as its closest one with indoor shooting range. (Carolinas sporting arms and Hyatt doesn't)

Fuck Larry Hyatt and his 12$ "Brady Campaign" Fee. That's right, a 12 doll hair fee when you purchase a firearm. It's supposedly to pay for maintaining all the 4473's that they have to keep. Walked out on a sale Thursday because of it. They are already the highest in the area, and they tack on this fee on top of that. I used to advocate going there, great selection, lots of knowledge, but entirely too overpriced. Firepower in Matthews, off of Monroe Rd, has a great selection and very fair prices, plus a 25 yd indoor pistol/shotgun range.
You need to go to Hyatt's just to go there. It's a sight to behold.
If you are actually planning on buying somehting, they are the highest in the area, but you can usually talk them down to reality.
The best prices are usually at Firepower though. If you want to shoot a full auto 9mm up to 45ACP, go to Shooters Express. They rent them out for like $30 + or - and you have to buy their ammo. I'd suggest a 9mm for keeping ammo costs down. I wouldn't even rent one if I wasn't going to put 200-300 rounds through it.
Carolina Sporting Arms is close to my office and I go there once a week to look at the used long gun rack.

Good advice.
Firepower is the best we got. I avoid hyatts and shooters express.
Thanks for the good intel.
I am not too concerned with indoor ranges. If I do any shooting there it will most likely be at the IDPA match.
Not really looking to buy any guns. I have most of what I want. I wouldn't mind running across a good deal on a SIG P226 X5 though.
Not too interested in any Full Auto rentals. I am pretty good friends with my local gun shop and they are class III. I get to shoot their MP5/M16/FAL in full auto when I need. Also got a couple of friend with FA guns too. We put on some pretty good Kentucky HTF shoots at Knob creek too with plenty of NFA goodness to share for all.
It's my dad's birthday and Mother's day on the 13th so I am visiting the parents for the weekend. They recently moved to NC from Central New York State. My dad is a bit of a gun guy so I figured I could drag him out to a gun shop and possibly to a IDPA match. He is applying for his permit soon too. He had a NY carry permit since the 70's when he owned a gas station/garage. I see my KY carry permit is recognized by NC and SC so that's good. Am I reading it right that one can't carry in any place that serves alcohol in NC? If so it looks like dinner out will have to be in SC.
KY allows carry in restaurants that serve alcohol as long as they aren't in the bar area and aren't drinking. TN recently passed a law allowing carry in places that serve alcohol as long as you aren't drinking. If they ban carry in any place that serves alcohol it pretty much rules out anything other than fast food places for going out to eat.
IIRC correctly carrying in a restaurant that serves alcohol in South Carolina is also against the law. I seem to remember reading that somewhere recently, but perhaps one of the SC guys can say for sure.

It's a shame that states still think it's a good idea to place so many establishments off limits to those that just wish to protect themselves and their family. It took a woman seeing her husband shot in front of her in the bar they were working in by a crazed stalker obsessed with her to get the laws changed in Tennessee. She had a carry permit but had to leave her gun in her car because the state law prohibited carry in places that serve alcohol. The law did nothing to stop her attacker and neither did the restraining order. All it did was keep her and her husband defenseless.

South Carolina does not allow carry in places that serve alcohol.
+1 for Firepower.
However, their range time and ammo are expensive.
I took my wife and daughter shooing there for one hour last week. We shared a lane and bought 1 box of 9mm and 1 box of .38. Grand total for the day? $74.
With a shortage of ranges in the greater Charlotte area, Firepower makes a killing on their range time and ammo.

They are competitive for this market. There are only a couple other indoor options, and the prices differ only by a dollar or two.
The old bullethole is one of my favorite spots. I don't recall their current name, but they are a tad cheaper than firepower. They also allow birdshot which is rare for indoor ranges around here.
To the OP, you aren't going to find an X5 Sig around here...I'd be shocked if you do. Since you aren't going to buy anything, go to Hyatts just for the spectacle.
