This was my first lower build from scratch. Spikes Zombie lower, magpul MOE trigger guard, RRA LPK w/ 2 stage trigger, ergo grip, old bush adjustable butt stock for now.

the big question is, what caliber of upper do I wan't to put on this thing???? I was gonna run with the whole Zombie gun theme, including a crazy paint job but I'm still pondering.

I thought about the bushy.450 or maybe the .300 AAC black, maybe a 6.8 SPC II or maybe just a straight up .223/5.56 carbine. What says everyone?????

Nothing says Zombie Killah like an AR-410. I'll see of I can find a link when I get home.

Of course the true beauty of the Grown Up Erector Set is you don't have to settle for just one upper.

If I could find the 12 gauge upper I'd cut it down to 11" after I got my SBS stamp.

I'd go with .223/5.56, but I've never been one to go for new calibers.

For Zombies right? You don't need a big caliber for Zombies, just headshots...
Go 22/5.56x45mm ... versatility with a quality 22 conversion kit (Stainless Steel CMMG kit)
and a good 5.56x45mm Upper.

with a good 16" Chrome Lined Barrel, Troy TRX or VTAC Rail, your choice of sights.

5.56 1:8 midlength KISS upper. It will be your favorite for a long time.

I was mostly kidding about the bolt action shotgun upper.

The 5.56 upper is a good idea.

I neglected to mention I have 3 other ar's.
2 16" carbines and a rifle length bull barrel 20".
This is just the 1st one I've built myself.

Id go with a 300 blk. You can hunt with it while hiding from the zombies. This is because you already have the 5.56's.

Oh come on now Its not true tradition to only have one cal. Plus in zombie prepping he will already have at minimum at least 1k rounds already.

Dooooooooooooooooooooooood!
a thousand rounds is not nearly enough of any one caliber for Zombies...
Recall if you will the numbers!
The ammunition you can get in Bulk Cheaply will be what you need!
22LR and 5.56/223!

I saw one of the AR 410's a year or so ago. I don't recall who made the rifle but it was pretty damn neat. I know Ruby's in Sullivan has had some of the 12ga ar's but they kinda feel cheap to me. and Ruby's tends to be high on there prices.

Check at Palmetto State Armory, they usually have some decent deals cooking over there. I have one of their mid-length uppers and it's been a dream. I plan on getting another variation of theirs as soon as I can get a few bucks together. I have a complete lower waiting on an upper, too

My vote goes for CMMG dedicated 22lr.

And cases of ammo

I still think you'd best be served by a midlength gas system on a 16" rifle.

Stainless, fluted, free floated 20" midlength 1/7 or 1/8 223/5.56 upper, (and replace the bull barrelled upper with a .22 rimfire).

what about middy 16" 5.45X39? cheap surplus ammo. just clean well after shooting. I've wanted an AR in that chambering for awhile. i'm assuming the recoil would feel the same as 5.56 too. anyone know for sure that's shot one?

anyways, that's my vote since it'd be cheap to shoot and more fun than 22lr (which is also a good choice).

ETA: barrel length and gas system and i overlooked what calibers you were considering

ETA2: .300 AAC black 6.8 SPC II - you might also look at 7.62X39 since you seem to be looking for .30 class projectiles. i have owned a 7.62X39 ar and it was really fun to shoot. ballistics wise the 7.62 may not look as good as the other two but i erred on the side of cost and availability. and that's why i chose the 7.62 over 300 or 6.8. hope that helps.
