I'm thinking about taking my lady to a Bed&Breakfast up by Hermann for the weekend. Are there any places up there that stand out above the rest? Not looking to spend a ton, but don't want so stay in a dump either.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!!

Stayed at Meyer's Hilltop B & B several years ago. It was clean, homey and very comfortable. Very adequate and accomodating.

I stayed at Birk's Gasthaus one time but that was a murder-mystery weekend. Don't know how they are on a normal weekend. It's sort of in the center of town so if you don't mind hoofing a bit you could stroll over to Hermannhoff or Stone Hill.

Here's a page that lists Hermann B&B's . . . .http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/hermann-missouri.html

I see that Hermanhoff has a B&B now. I'd be tempted to stay there. IMO, they are one of the coolest wineries in Hermann. They have that old world vibe, a nice selection of meat and cheese and they make some pretty good wine. Their Norton and Vignoles are among the best in Hermann. Plus, they're right downtown and near a bunch of other stuff.

I would caution the OP from going too cheap. A few years ago I went on a media wine tour. There was about 10 of us on the trip and the night we stayed in Hermann they split the group up and put each one of us in a different bed and breakfast. I ended up in some little old lady's back bedroom. I'm serious. Yeah, it was like a little apartment with its own bathroom and living room, but it was basically some little old lady's back room. I was the only guest in the place. She fixed me breakfast but, damn, that was weird.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've been to a place like that. We showed up expecting a nice B&B with private rooms there were away from the people that owned it. But when we showed up, it was just a house with a family upstairs....and they just pointed us down the stairs and said "you guys get the basement". Talk about weird...they had their kids running all over the place, if I didn't think they needed the money we would have just left and asked for a refund. Nothing like eating breakfast with a strange family and their kinds in the morning.... weird!

Seems like there's a lot of those in Hermann.

Personally, I find the whole B&B scene to be pretty darn weird generally. I've stayed in probably 8 or 10 of them and there were only a couple that I really enjoyed. All things considered I'd just as soon stay in a hotel.
