Thanks to those that told me about your individual states ccw laws for my travels.
Now I have a question on Meridian. It seems this little city will be my half way point and I will probably stop here over night. Is this a safe place to stop? Any areas I should avoid? Do you have recommendations on where to stay overnight? Nothing expensive, just a warm bed and a fluffy pillow will work for me and my family.
You will have a wide choice of Hotels right on the interstate. After dark stay away from the convenience stores. We have had a rash of robberies. You will
have plenty of great places to eat close by. Enjoy
There is a holliday inn, drudge inn and Hilton garden inn right on the intestate. I stay in the holliday inn about twice a month. Its nice and the restaurant is good too.
If you are going to be anywhere close to Starkville or Jackson PM me. Free travel advice worth what you pay for it.
As others have said, any of the national chains on I-20 will be OK.
Meridian is not a ghetto high crime city.
Still, don't leave guns and purses in your car at night.

Never leave things like that in the car... Good to know about the crime, that was my concern.

Not gonna be anywhere near Jackson. Thanks.
Take Exit #154B and it will put you right at Drury Inn, Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Super 8, Comfort Inn, Jameson, Microtel, and a couple more I forgot... but DO NOT stay at the Western Inn or Days Inn! NASTY places!
Also, at that same exit, you will have plenty of restaurants to choose from and the only place I'd really recommend to stay away from is the Waffle House at night... unless you are really a risk taker! If you want something local, go from the same exit up Hwy 39 N to Ole Farm Beef House.(Shameless plug for my mom's steak house

). Or if there is a particular restaurant you want to know about, just send me an IM.
Have a great trip!
I always stay at the Hampton when I go down for command inspections of the guard unit down there. The drury is nice too. There is a buffalo wild wings kina across the street and left from Hampton, (Hampton is right next to Hilton and is much cheaper) you can walk with no problem and stumble back with ease..
