Been a certified handgun/shotgun instructor for few years now and just recently completed their precision rifle instructor course as well. Anybody have any luck getting the academy to waive the basic instructor school and just complete the firearms qualification part of the instructor course for state certification since for some reason the ILEA doesn't recognize the NRA Instructor Certification?

I don't think it's the waving of a certifcate it's more about losing the money they charge for getting the certificate. I was actually told that by an instructor a few years ago. They are afraid since the NRA firearms instructor courses are generally better than what they provide most departments would send their instructors there and the ILEA will lose money.

If you're already an ILEA certified instructor, I think the ILEA will count an NRA instructor certification toward your Psychomotor Skills certification for firearms. All you will have to do is shoot the qualification course to show handgun proficiency. At least that's the way about six years ago when I got my ILEA certification for firearms.
