Wife's Aunt lives in Magnolia. She wants me to leave my 'spare' kayak down there so I'll bring the wife and kids to visit (they visit, I fish/crab). There are a few boat landings nearby (I was down there today).

What's the fishing like in those areas?

I saw a few people crabbing from bridges nearby...how's that?

Any suggestions? Rules (I have a PA registration on the kayak...not a 'license' but more of an access pass to use Fish and Game commission boat landings and controlled lakes)?

Thanks!

im sure you will need a fishing license. not sure if kayaks need a registration but if you home state doesnt i wouldnt worry about it, just tell them you brought it with you when you came to visit. you probably need to check the DNR, dept of game and inland fisheries, or whatever De has like that.

Figured the fishing license. The PA sticker 'should' work for most states (shows it's registered in a different state, so even if DE requires (say) a license for their in-state kayaks, they'll probably honor the PA sticker).

More wondering what's to catch, and if it's worth the time to try crabbing..

Thanks!

not sure if there are any regs crabbing from a boat. fishing, depends on where. salt, fresh, all different. location is different as well. check the local papers for there fishing reports and see what comes up. might also want to check any boating or fishing forums for fishing reports.

You do not have register your kayak in Delaware as long as it isn’t using a motor (electric or other). You have to get a non-resident license to fish or crab in Delaware. You can do it online.

Magnolia is outside my normal fishing area so I am not sure what the fishing is like. Largemouth bass, crappie, and chain pickerel are very common in the millponds / “lakes” in the area. Water is relatively shallow and can be weedy. I like using rubber worms with a texas rig style. Don’t rush it, with water temps up and oxygen levels down working your lure slow is best. This time of year when you are surf fishing on the Delaware Bay you can expect to catch flounder, croakers and rockfish. A fishing report on the radio this a.m. said lots and lots of croakers are being caught.

Most of the crabbing from bridges is done with a chicken neck on a string. If you do use a pot you are limited to 2 pots.

2011 Fishing regulations are here.
