AR pistol build...what's the best way to transfer the lower

I'm picking up (transferring) a lower on tuesday for an AR pistol build. My pawn shop xfer dealer has not xferred an AR lower as a pistol before––what is the best way to fill out the 4473? Or can you only xfer it as a pistol? I had read somewhere you can xfer it as a SBR and then do either, but am not sure if that is true.

find someone who's done it before.
as far as i remember if you get it transferred as a rifle once it's a rifle for ever, but if you do it as a pistol you have options either way
can't speak to doing it as an SBR

If it is not built into a complete firearm at the time you transfer it then it is supposed to be listed as other/receiver on the 4473 form. You can then build it into whatever you want.

This is the right way. I just picked up a lower and parts kit from Element Arms yesterday and they transferred it as "other".

Yep go (Other) or Aay Other Weapon (AOW) as mention in the future it can become a rifle

AOW is an NFA item. The transfer should be done as "other."

I called Element and they confirmed that it should, indeed, be transferred as "other".

I would imagine if you transferred as an nfa item you would have to pay the tax stamp on it.
