Looking for Pork Bellies in the Twin Cities area.

Trying to find a local supply of pork bellies at a reasonable price, not some over inflated over the counter price. I want to buy by the case and am hoping to pay under $1 a pound. I've heard of guys having sources as cheap as 30 cents a pound whereas my local butcher wants $2.89 a pound! If you know of anyone or have any leads for reasonably priced butcher shops I'd really appreciate it and depending on the final product there could definitely be some homemade bacon thrown in as a finders fee.

Thanks,
Trent

BTW, I'm in the SW metro.

There's a place near Lonsdale...but damn if I can remember the name. I'll try to get it this week and get back to you. Don't know if that's too far for you or not.

I think Halfast is talking about Krenik's Meat Processing. They have a good rep around the south metro the number is. 507-364-5154. Good luck! I love bacon If you use him, let him know that his electrican got you his number

Thanks guys, I'll give them a call and see what happens. I also found out that Asian Grocery stores can be a good source and great prices so I may have to find some of those as well.

Actually, Krenik's came to mind, but they weren't the place I was thinking about. Don't get me wrong - they have GREAT product. At any rate, it's worth paying them a visit. A friend of mine works part time out there...he thinks they'll sell bellies to you (doesn't know how much).

The place I was thinking about is the one just northeast of Lonsdale...he specializes in buffalo, but he does other bulk meats, too (I was in there one day a few years ago and some Hmong were in there buying a car-trunk-load of chickens and rough-cut pork). I think this is the place: JD Meats. That's the best website I could find.
A search for that type of business in the area also returns Monghmong Meats and Johnson Buffalo Ranch. Might give him a call, but I can only say the buffalo is good...can't vouch for anything else.

Good luck!

Yumm...bacon!!!

how much do you want to get?

I work/cook in a high end kitchen, and the chef lets us order stuff at his cost now and then. I can get whole pork bellys no problem...if you are interested, I can ask the Chef how much it runs a lb.

That would be great, I'm looking for anything from about 10lbs up to a whole case which runs around 60#s I guess. Depending on price I'll take what ever I can get.

I will ask the ordering sous-chef how much pork belly is per/lb. We usually get them in case quantity, so I will see how much the overall costs are.

WIll get back to this thread ASAP.
