How much will this cost me... (traffic ticket)

was pulled over going 10 mph over in a 75 zone on I-64W this morning near Paducah...

Traffic citation did not have the amount owed written on there- any idea how much this will cost me?

Also, I hear that KY offers an online driver's ed program that might cause the ticket to be waived? If that's true, is the only way to get that option to make a court appearance? I'm from out of state, which would make that possibility difficult.

Also, the Paducah PD were out on a feeding frenzy this morning... within the span of 1 mile, there were 3 cars pulled over presumably for speeding. Sat Morn, not a lot of traffic- average speed for the 30+ miles leading up to Paducah was all 80+mph on the right lane and 90+ on the left...

I was pulled over while in the left- but I was almost certain I was at most going 80 (and not 85)

tips?

The fine should be around 168$
I would try and contact a a lawyer in the county you were pulled over in.
Should be able to send him 50$. He would go to court for you. Have the ticket mended down to faulty equipment. Then you would owe about 130$ in court cost.

I was "supposedly" clocked going 45 through a 35 (10 over) (it's a road I travel every day to/from work and I had just looked at the speedometer before I got pulled over, I was going 37ish...) anyhow, the citation was $20.

The "court costs" were $143.

I'm not sure how there can be court costs for something that never goes to court but, what the fuck, I am but a simple serf.

Good luck man, probably looking at $150 give or take.

There is something seriously wrong with this story. I don't know if it is trolling with bait or what, but I ain't about to bite. I would encourage others to carefully read the story.

Besides, it isn’t much of a big deal. Going to court to pay a ticket? Probably less than $200? That isn’t a blip on my radar. Now, God help one of us Kentuckians traveling to Missouri for lunch on a Saturday and we get pulled over in the southern tip of Illinois with a pistol on us. That would be a big deal … in Illinois.

Bit paranoid are we?

No- not a troll post- wondering how much the ticket would cost me. Pretty simple as that...

Also- what is 'wrong' with my story?

I feel your pain I got an 85 in a 75 zone on I-71 right outside Franfort. And it's bullshit.

Really? Maybe you just think people in Kentucky are stupid.

No idea where you're getting that implication from.

I'll call the number the officer left on Monday to see what the damage is...

Sigh, $150~160 for going 10 over just stinks, especially since the 'court costs' are obviously nothing more than a way for them to line their pockets.

What exit or mile marker on I-64? It should say on the ticket.

Does Ky have 75 mph speed limits?

Highest I've ever seen on the interstate was 70.

Where in KY is the speed limit 75?

Time to stop all of this BS. I don’t know why a person would do this. But, there is a whole lot of garbage in the story.

I-64 does not go anywhere near Paducah. If you are not from there, don't have family there, or don't ever travel there, just check Mapquest.com .

The maximum speed limit in Kentucky is 70 mph. That is the way it has been for a while now. It won't change over night either. It takes an act of (state) congress to change it.

The “driver school” program does not waive tickets. One still pays some fees and has to complete a class. (Complete = physical attendance, maybe video or online. I KNOW it changes from time to time as the counties and state experiment with the program.) More than anything, it helps with regard to “points”.

In any case, if a person was driving through some place and got a ticket, they can just drive back through it to go to court.

Again, a few hundred dollars for carelessly speeding is nothing. Now, as I said, God help one of us Kentuckians traveling to Missouri for lunch on a Saturday and we get pulled over in the southern tip of Illinois with a pistol on us. That would be a big deal … in Illinois.

bah, this is my bad- I was travelling from Nashville TN to STL MO and it was on I24 where I got the ticket- just past the Lone Oak Rd exit (McCracken Cty, Sector 7). 80MPH on a 70MPH.
(I mistakenly said I-64, because that was the route I took after I-24/I-57 then I-64W to STL- it was a long day with lots of hours on the road)

I typed the OP when I got home in Chicago at around 12 last night and didn't have the citation in front of me. Now, I have the citation in front of me

Also- KYVenom- I'm not disputing IL has some shitty laws, especially where it concerns CCW. I have a FL permit and am moving down to STL for school next year, so I'll be carrying and being VERY careful when I cross the IL/MO boundary.

ETA: I'm having trouble reading her handwriting. Under Exact Location, she wrote I-24 and the next word is either IVest, or Nest or something along those lines- neither one makes sense to me. I just remember having to get off 2 exits or so later at Hinkleville Rd to go to the local Home Depot to pick up some supplies before heading to STL to preview a house.

Is ther a court date on the citation?

You can always call that county's clerks office and see if you have been put on a docket yet or if you can prepay it.

Court date 5/2/12 0900

i'll call first thing Monday. If I prepay it, will it get rid of the court fees?
EM901  [Team Member]

No. Prepay is a guilty plea and carries the full cost.

not familiar with the location you describe (I-24). is it still in ky? if so no prepaying will not waive court fees and they are currently $143. out of state license is not eligible for traffic school. if it is a ky citation it should say Kentucky on the top of it and in the middle should say what county and city you were in (it is right above the narrative portion where the officer wrote what occurred. next to where it says what city you were in it should have either court or prepay checked. if it has court checked you will need to attend regardless. if it says prepay you will need to call the clerks office to get the total and address to mail the check. you're only other option is to go to court and fight it. keep in mind they do not provide a public defender on a traffic ticket and you will have to represent yourself or hire an attorney which can cost as much as the ticket.

Still in KY- McCracken County. Payable is checked instead of Court.

This is stupid beyond belief- I am paying them $143 for 'court fees' even though I'm not going to court- so in effect, I am paying them $143 to process my $20 or whatever actual citation fee. Yes- please take my money to assist in taking my money. Assholes.

The pain of a speeding ticket...I felt it last summer. Going 56 in a 40 zone on Dixie Hwy in Louisville. Since then I note the speed limit, set my cruise AT that speed and stay in the right lane. If someone wants to go faster they have all the room to my left they need.

First ticket I've had in 20 years.

You can't really get out of the court fee. The ticket cost is usually nominal, so just pay the fine and move along. If you were exceeding the 70 mph speed limit then you are guilty. I am not throwing any judgment here as I frequently do it but I also get a ticket about once a year. I have a lead foot. I am sure there is some other point in time you were doing more and didn't get a ticket so count yourself lucky on that one.

I have been watching Parking Wars alot and I tell you that we here in KY are soooo lucky not to have some of the laws in other states.
