WDRB 41 and
WHAS 11 both reporting the Sherman Minton bridge will reopen at midnight tonight. Inspection of the bridge was conducted throughout the project. Today the heavy equipment and even the porta johns were removed
The concrete barriers blocking the ramps heading to the bridge were removed today and replaced with orange traffic barrels monitored by INDOT and KYDOT crews. As soon as they get the word they'll pull those barrels off the road and reopen the ramps.
Kudos to Hall Contracting. They only took two days off during the entire project...Christmas and one day when there were tornado warnings. Let's put those guys to work building the East End bridge.
ETA: As of 9:30PM according to WHAS 11 the bridge's opening on Friday night was
confirmed in a briefing by Governor Mitch Daniels' office, according to
Indiana State Representative Ed Clere (R-New Albany).
ETA 2:
WAVE 3 now reporting the bridge will open tonight.
They had an incentive to get it open early. Not sure you want them building the other bridges.
There will be a design/build project coming soon though to a town near you.
Very good news.
Now they are going to re-surface the Kennedy which will cause more problems. But I'm looking forward to that. I almost bounced into the river a couple of days ago.
