Eggner ferry bridge collapse. LBL bridge
This is the bridge on the trigg-Marshall county line. Kentucky lake bridge. Some barge hit it and broke it down.
WOW!! I was just on this bridge not to long ago. It's gonna be a hell of detour.
Not the best year for bridges in Kentucky. Knob Creek, Sherman Minton, and now, Land Between the Lakes. Bet that bridge doesn't get fixed as fast as the Sherman Minton.
Whoa!
THIS IS KENTUCKY!
Just eyeballing that, back the boat up about half a length, lay some decking over it and call it fixed. Might be a problem when the river gets low I suppose.
Is that the scary narrow bridge coming into LBL from the east?

Damn. That is going to suck! Although, I hated that bridge because it was so narrow.
no, this bridge is on the west side of LBL. the one on the east side of LBL looks just like it though. the bridges (both east and west sides of LBL) are both due for replacement. there was a meeting some time last year to discuss the new design of the bridges. iirc, they said the bridge was built in 1932 and carried and estimated 2600 vehicles every day.
that boat is huge. its by far the biggest i've ever seen on that river.
Dam I saw this on eht news and was like WTF?

How did they manage to hit the bridge, was the boat to big to be going down that way and found out to late that he could not make it?

The narrow ass bridge has a high hump in the middle that boats are to pass through. This one went to one side into the lower portions of the bridge.
Selfishly, I am glad it is on the west side. I fell in love with LBL last summer. On Jeep29's advice my wife and I went there to unlimber my new toy, a 2000 XJ. I was planning to return this fall.
You been to Turkey Bay! I haven't been since they re-did it, a bunch of us used to go from Etown. We need to get back there.
Michael
No, we looked at it but decided not to. We drove the washed out backroads and visited a few old graveyard's. Then we found one roadthat went down (I think) to Sugar Bay. That was a challenging road! Huge washouts.
Is that the boat that had the NASA rocket parts on it?

I was in Aurora when the bridge was hit.
I'm glad my hankering was for a candy bar and not a scinic drive. On the way home I bet I saw 30 emergency vehicles racing toward the scene.
