Hello, popping in from over on the Missouri side of the river(s).
Been about six years since I lived in Kentucky and I totally miss it.

I'll cut to the chase, I have recently gotten in to guns and I make my yearly pilgrimage to the Bluegrass to watch the Super Bowl with a friend from college. This year he will be working a large portion of the time I will be in town, and I was looking for good shooting spots or events that I could sneak in on.

I usually begin my trek from St. Louis around 0400 on the Friday (2/3) so I should be in Kentucky by 11, weather willing. I will be taking the detour through Louisville and am rather familiar with the area from Loretto up through Louisville, and the areas bounded by Louisville, Cincinnati, and Richmond (yes EKU Alumni here.)
My last trip down was rather confused as my spouse was with me and a lot of things were fluid and I didn't get to visit many of the shops I had hunted out.

Current Schedule looks like this:
I have all day Friday free (till 2300 at least), Saturday until 1500, and Sunday until 1400. Any tips would be appreciated, and I definitely wouldn't rule out meeting some fine folks from my adopted home state.

I am currently only planning on bringing my Mosin Nagant and my 1911 (which will be on my hip, save for the communist bastion of Illinois) as that is about what my 'arsenal' looks like these days.

Thanks for looking, and good shooting!

Welcome!

I am in Lexington, but don't get out much anymore due to my crazy work hours..

As far as ranges, if your going to be near Louisvlle you should head over to knob Creek. Lexington.... well there are a few indoor ranges in Lexington (one being built) The others are tacked in our Ky forum.

Bud's is worth visiting on Industry (just of Winchester and New Circle). http://www.thegunwarehouse.com/

Have a safe trip!

Who's building a range, and where is it please?

Oh wow, I checked out Knob Creeks website... I wish I was closer, the only club here with any decent range is $500 and a waiting list to get in the door. I may very well spend Friday at Knob Creek! Buds was on my list as well.

While you're in the neighborhood of Bud's... check out Charlie's Seafood for lunch. The fish sammich is very good, and enough for two.

Well I checked out KCR.. but didn't have time to stay and shoot :( I really wish there were affordable ranges here, though the DNR ones are only $3/hr but you deal with a lot of mouthbreathers

Buds was interesting (the one time federal laws save money, can't buy handguns!) but it was nice being able to see weapons that I haven't seen stocked around here (the odd bullpup FN guns interest me so much)

Is there a reason all of the gun shops are posted against carry?

I can tell you from personal experience why Buds is that way. It was not posted as such in the begining but about 2 weeks after it opened, there was a ND by a customer (I was about 10 feet to his right). He killed a display case dead and probably wounded a few sets of Crimson Trace grips. Within days the no conceal carry signs were up and the employees were no longer openly packin'. It was a young guy with his wife and little kids in tow. Thankfully none of the people who had already drawn pistols were foolish enough to pull the trigger.

I always assumed it had to do with people bringing in guns for trade to remind them to make sure they were unloaded.

Lots of shops have the sign but I have always assumed that they did not actually care about your carry as long as it stayed where it belongs.
