Is this something I can just go get or am I going to have to get into some paperwork.

Not sure what the state has to say about the whole foldymadoo.

I'm sure this was touched on before, sorry for the dupe, I just couldn't find it.

Thanks

I'd venture a guess as yes it is legal.

I say this because I bought one this week. Ive shot another ar15 members sub2000. I've seen just about every local gun store selling them. I even had several stores looking to get one for me.

Now the hard problem, finding one.

Perfectly legal. The stock is fixed, while the receiver folds.

The Sub2000 was designed to be ban compliant

Agreed, I had a blast with mine yesterday. I nearly burned through 300 rds of 9mm on that rifle alone.

If you didn't know, there isn't much of an aftermarket. What does exist pretty much covers all the "flaws" of this rifle. There is a buffer tube cover. Replacement front sight. Aftermarket quad rail that lets you still fold the rifle in half without removing optics/accessories. Keltec offers some of there own aftermarket parts, but some are out of stock.

For me, the Sub2000 I bought came out of HI. It was a chrome 9mm beretta mag version. It came with 3 10rd mags, hoque slip on grip, tacticool buffer tube cover and yet to be installed plain jane redlion front site. I only need a sling and a few 20rd Mecgar mags to be happy.

After I get a shotgun, I might look for a Sub2000 in 40 S/W that uses beretta mags. I want to have a matching sub2000 to each beretta I have.

I love you guys! hahahaha

Ok, officially in the market for a sub2000. Im going to do a little bit more home work but Im leaning toward the glock 9mm flavor.

Whats the effective range on these?

James, IM me your phone number, Im going to try to get Dave up here and get a little range session going in the next 2 weeks. Id love to give it a few shots down range if you don't mind.

Thanks again fellas!

effective range for what?

50-75 yards is probably the max they are designed for, so I wouldn't expect any more than the round would be fired form a pistol. The sights are probably good for no more than 50-75 max. It is very fast and handy though, and surprisingly accurate for what it is.

When I bought mine it was strictly for traveling. It could go in a little hideybag, and we could keep it legal with 10rd mags if needed. Or get you out of a SHTF rioter's roadblock with the 33rd mags. It could get snuck into the hotel without looking like anything but a tennis racket, and if it was stolen, big deal, $300 gun.

Yeah, the Glock mag versions are the best because the mags are damn reliable, cheap, and you can get them all over the place.

Think about having to order one. They don't stay in stock, and when they do, the dealers mark them up a good $100-$150. The Glock mag versions are in high demand and they are only made in batches a few times a year.

Andrapos and I ordered ours at the same time last year from JoJo's. Took about 7 or 8 weeks and they were cheap.

Also, these guns are best left in their stock form. The only thing I would recommend doing is to get one of those Houge slip on rubber pistol grip covers. Anything else really just gets in the way of using it.

Thanks Dan, I figured the range would be comparable, I just wasn't sure if a longer period of back pressure and/or friction in the barrel would push it farther, drag it down sooner, etc.

I just did some looking online and it appears I might have a little trouble finding one, they're out there though. Ill probably just head down to Riverview and let them deal with that headache as long as the mark up isn't too bad. They treat me good, I spend enough money for them to remember me hahaha.

The purpose you describe is exactly why it caught my eye. This will be a great addition to my safe and can fit right in my bag, under my seat etc.

I think Im going to try and find a Glock 40 version. Which means my M&P needs to get traded in for a Glock. I am fond of the idea of compatibility.

Good thing I have the rest of the weekend to mull it over, I want this thing yesterday hahaha.

If you want to try out a Glock model let me know, I have one you are welcome to put through the paces. The 10rnd Glock (real glock) mag it came with was crap and jammed all over the place but the 17 and 32rnd mags run flawlessly. It is a handy travel gun and it can even fit under the front seat. If you have a Glock 9mm as your carry gun then it's a bonus for using the same mags.

I'm no ballistics expert, but yes it will get a bit more steam behind it, but not enough to really extend the range of the round appreciably IMO. I think it will be enough that you can confidently switch to ball ammo over hollow points though. I filled it with NATO marked 9mm from winchester. However, it did run fine with my carry ammo (Gold Dot 124gr +P).

Sweet! Another Glock man!

Note that the Sub2k is available with a grip for a Glock 19 sized 15 round mag, or the 17 round Glock 17 round mag. Personally, I'd just go get the one that takes the G17 mags. Reason being is that the G19 sized sub2k is VERY hard to find, the grip is too short, and you can modify the G17 sized sub2k to take the shorter mags if desired.

if carried under the seat in ct it would be illegal. No loaded rifles aloud in the car only pistols.

Andrapos - Thanks for the offer. Been pretty busy (and broke . . figure that one out ) so unfortunately my next range session will have to be more or less a hit and run mission, James is conveniently located in town. Hopefully Ill be able to get in on the next CT shoot though, it would be cool to put some faces behind all the ridiculous banter that goes on in here. hahaha And hopefully Ill have some new toys to bring too!

Dan - Duly noted. G17 it is, thanks.

j98c - Good point, thanks for bringing it to attention. If ever a time I thought I needed a rifle under my seat, it would probably be past the point of caring about where the law says I can carry my weapons. But since I dont know what tomorrow brings, I will be glad to have the option.

But just out of curiosity now, since I will be moving over to a Glock platform (assuming its a fit for me), what if the 2k was under my seat but had a clear chamber and no magazine, and the magazines are on my person with my Glock? Or am I just being a trouble maker now. haha

That's the way to do it and be 100% legal.

Do they have any evil features? Could you add threads for a can? Would personally prefer one in 45acp also

There is no sub2000 in 45ACP.

There is no preban sub2000, so in CT, no suppressor. Although one guy made a pretty sweet suppressed SBR Sub2000. It had a custom quad rail partially cover the suppressor.

I had forgotten if the limiting features simply included a detachable magazine or a detachable magazine outside the grip. Given it is the former you are correct and nothing else would be allowed. Also aware that there is no 45 but found some speculation (or hope) that they would come out with one.

I went and handled a Glock 17 today, I did not like the way it feels as much as my M&P. I guess if I can shoot it better than Ill just have to deal with it.

Now Im torn. . . .

Maybe I can just bring myself to say nuts to compatibility.

You have three other options with Sub2000.

That's what I did. I don't like the feel of Glocks, but for some reason, the Sub2000 in G17 didn't bother me so much.

Zerg,

Try the gen4 Glock. It has interchangeable back straps and a new texture. It feels much better, but it's still a Glock, which means it Is built to work, and not to make your hand happy. That's what strippers are for

Ultimately the mag comparability is not that big of a deal IMO.

If the gun is truly for a SHTF hidey-bag, simply keep your eyes open for the first used Older G17 you see at a low price to be it's companion piece. At that point, comfort isn't a concern.

Dan and James,

You both bring up great points! hahaha

Another week or two to mull it over couldn't hurt I suppose. Good thing they don't seem to be in stock anywhere, helps keep the impulsive purchases down.

Thanks again for all the input everybody.
