Pcsing to Berlin, New Hampshire
New member here but been snooping for quite a while. Just wanted to drop in and see if anyone had any info on the area. So far everything I have seen is great I love to hunt and fish and I am looking foreward to the change of scenery. So whats the low down on the area. do's and don'ts. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the state. I recently moved to NH from Mass (as fast as I could, too).
Only thing I can say is that the motto here is Live Free or Die, and we all pretty much live by that. It could not be better, and I never want to be anywhere else.
Its a great area for hunting and fishing. I go up north of there a lot. Got some nice trout and some pretty nice deer out of there. Lots of moose, good partridge hunting.
If you are PCSing there, you won't have to worry about a job. Good, because there ain't much there for employment. Its a mill town without mills. That area has been beat to hell and back with the economy. Real Estate up there can't get much cheaper.
The good news: The area up there is beautiful. A lot of people unfamiliar with the area say it smells. It USED to smell, when the mills were still there. Conway draws the tourists like moths to a flame, so you will, for the most part, be left alone.
ETA: stupid there/their mistake

Berlin is a decaying hell hole.
I hope you're not looking for a job.
Heard they had the worst arson rate per capita in the US. People getting behind in their mortgages and torching the place for the insurance.
sounds like a good place to retire to

serial arsonists also
Definitely not the most prosperous place. Since you're PCS'ing as opposed to ETS'ing, you should be fine. The new Federal prison is supposed to be coming online soon, but there isn't much industry left in Northern New England.
