Good Eats in Charleston, WV
Hey guys,
Will be in Charleston with the Mrs in the upcoming weekend to go see her fave country girl, Miranda Lambert!
What are some good places to dine & have a drink, ie. steak, burger, beer?
Any places/areas to avoid?
Thanks!
There are plenty of chain steakhouses around.
For dining I enjoy
Fazios
If you want to party before hand hit up the bars on Capital Street
Pies & Pints on Capitol Street is good for pizza and salads.
If you like Greek/Mediterranean food, there's Aladdin's on Chesterfield Avenue in Kanawha City. The wife and I eat there a lot. The gyro platter and the moussaka are both incredible. There's a Filipino restaurant nearby on Chesterfield. I haven't eaten there, but my sister-in-law liked it.
Taste of Asia in South Charleston is your best bet for Chinese, Thai and sushi.
Fazio's for Italian. Fifth Quarter near the Civic Center for steaks.
There are two good Indian restaurants in town –– the Sitar on Lee Street and Little India on Washington Street East near the Capitol.
Charleston is usually pretty sedate, but CCW would not be unreasonable in the East End north of Lee Street, the West Side south of Washington Street or around the Town Center after dark (especially in the parking garages where robberies are not unheard of).
If you find yourself on Florida Street on the West Side after 11 p.m. or so, both the crack dealers and the cops will assume you are there to buy drugs.
Vandalia Grille at 212 Hale Street has some pretty good burgers. It's about halfway between the Civic Center and the Capitol.
Wow! Didn't realize Charleston was so diverse in flavors!
Also, thanks for the tips on where to avoid. Wish I could carry, but since we'll be hitting up a concert as well as drinking, it'll be a no-go.
Bluegrass Kitchen on the East End is really good. It's a local, slightly hippie-ish restaurant with really good food and good beer.
Tricky Fish across the street is supposed to be good too, but I haven't eaten there.
Pies and Pints is awesome, but will probably be really packed if there's a concert. I've been there once on a Tuesday and there was a wait.
