This Walmart had Federal for $10.99 and Tula for $9.99 two weeks ago. Boxes tend to be scarce there, so call ahead if it is going to be a drive.
Fair Lakes Wally-world. 100 round white box for $19.97. You can sometimes get the same box over at Dicks sporting goods just down the street for 18 and change. Just need to look for their specials.
FYI: 20 count Remington UMC 223 tend to run 7.98 every few weeks on sale (reg: 9.99). 55 grain If i recall correctly.
Natchez seems like my best bet for 500 rounds . I can get some cheap 223 from them.
Wallyworld used to offer ammo so much cheaper then everyone . Guess they figured out they can charge more and still sell a crap load.

Does "cheap" also factor in the cost for shipping and handling? If it is then you may be saving this 'ol boy some money.

It runs 9.97 a box at Nachess , shipping was ~12-15 if I remember. It's really a couple bucks more, but it shows up at my front door :)
You wouldn't be able to buy 500 rounds from WM anyway. I think the one in Sterling is still rationing ammo, and they had almost nothing in 'common calibers' on the shelf the last few times I was there. There's something eerily familiar about all this.

What's "cheap"?
Natchez is offering Federal XM193 1000rd case for $300 ($324 shipped to my home in NoVA). That's $0.324/rd.
Gun-Deals.com has many other options for less money (shipped; most of them steel cased). I found 1000rds of 9mm 147gr Speer Lawman for $225 (shipped) just recently.
You can also find free shipping sellers on
GunBroker.com. I picked up 1000rds of 9mm 124gr Federal AE there for $238 (shipped) a few months ago.
Search around. There are definitely better deals to be found than Wal-Mart - especially if Wal-Mart's more than just down the block from you.
Man I am glad I stocked up on a couple of cases of the CCI Blazer 9mm when they had it for $8.99/50.
Now I don't see them carrying it and it's only the Fed and Winchester along with some Tula at higher prices.
