I keep seeing the mention of green tip ammo, what does this mean?

I was thinking of hitting the show on Sunday.

Green tip means it uses the SS109 projectile which has a steel core. Designed to penetrate soft body armor.

This is real Lake City Military Issue SS-109 ammo with the steal penetrator.

I also have ~15 New Beta-C Mags which I am selling for $200 each. They have a mixture of carry cases (Black, OD Green and Chocolate Chip Camo) and a mixture of clear and black backs. This is your opportunity to get genuine (not import) Beta-C mags substantially below cost.

Since this is a "Personal Stash", the Beta-C mags are cash only and only Saturday before noon (I leave ~noon to go back to NC).

Also, be sure to mention "AR15.com" to get an additional discount on all of our other items!

Still debating...

Anything worth buying?

Quantico Tactical and Tonys Customs for quality parts. Ammo was up and down. Saw one guy with $6 Fed xm193. Dont know about the Sig mags. Thought about a RIA 1911 but nothing priced right in .45

Meh, it is getting to be like the Dale City show. Seems like more and more junk every time.

The only bright spots were two dealers selling the Federal XM855 cans for $150 (Quantico Tactical & some other dealer up towards the front).
A few dealers had GI ar15 mags for $9-10 each.

A few private sellers were on hand with some decent stuff. Overall it's a show that could be passed on, but $8 is cheap for an hours worth of entertainment .

My advice is to steer clear of Tony's. His 'quality' parts are questionable, not to mention his shitty business tactics. It has been discussed here on arfcom before.

I do. He got shitty with me at Fishersville a few shows back because I asked him about taking less on a RRA trigger.

I made the ~200 mile round trip and really enjoyed the show. Parking was a beast but I got in the door PDQ and headed straight to the Quantico tables. Met Dave and spent a bunch of money. Bought a beta mag, 10 Magpul p-mags, a MIAD grip and a pair of MOE back-up sights. Went back later and bought 5 more mags for a friend. 5 for 55 is a killer deal, especially when dealing with Dave.

Yeah there were 2 or 3 people selling jerky, some gal making and selling jewelery and other non gun stuff but I liked this show better than the Chantilly show and it beat the pants off of Winchester and the Mason-Dixon shows I usually go to.

I'll be going back.

Went today, place was packed, parking was a bitch. Had a run in with some clown from Liberty Firearms about a stripped lower I wanted to buy. He asks for ID so I give him my CHP and Va drivers license. Then he starts saying some crap about maybe needing a third ID cause it's a stripped lower, that I could build an assault rifle out it, blah, blah. So I try to inform him of the rules/regs/laws etc and he doesn't want to hear it. He must be a cop in real life.

Anyhow, he starts saying he isn't a lawyer and how I'm not one either, blah blah. So I try to tell him third ID (proof of citizenship or "green" card) is needed for an "assault" rifle, when he returns my ID and says "Sorry, I can't help you." and walks off with an attitude.

Screw Liberty Firearms, I'll be damned if I ever purchase anything from them, now or in the future. So anyway, I went to DK Firearms and bought a stripped lower from them with no freaking drama about ID's. Just had to wait for them to get through the 10 or 15 other customers ahead of me for the background check. That took about 45 minutes to complete. Other than that, no delay to transfer the lower.

Oh, and did I say, "SCREW LIBERTY FIREARMS!" ?

Transfer of an Assault Firearm

Proof of citizenship, or of lawful admission for a permanent residence, must be established prior to the purchase of an "assault firearm." An assault firearm is defined as any semi-automatic center-fire rifle or pistol that expels single or multiple projectiles by action of an explosion of a combustible material and is equipped at the time of offence with a magazine which will hold more than 20 rounds of ammunition or designed by the manufacturer to accommodate a silencer or equipped with a folding stock.

One of the following forms of proof of citizenship or lawful residence, pursuant to §18.2-308.2 must be presented to purchase an assault firearm:

a certified birth certificate or certificate of birth abroad issued by the US State Department,
an un-expired US Passport,
a U. S. citizen identification card,
a current voter registration card,
a current selective service registration card,
an immigrant or registration card issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service, and
a certificate of citizenship or a certificate of naturalization issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Blame Mir Aimal Kasi of Quetta, Baluchistan for the law.
He shot and killed several people outside the CIA, using an "assault rifle" he bought in Virginia, while he was not a citizen.

JBT, yes, I am well aware of that. I wasn't attempting to purchase an assault firearm, I wanted to purchase a stripped lower which is transferred as "other" and no other identification necessary. So I'm unsure as to the point of your post.

"Were the Lizard Lick dudes there again?" Lizard Lick dudes??? Haven't heard about them, but Dark Sun wasn't there.

Shit, I see guys who look just like them at school during the week. Thankfully they're not incessantly calling each other 'bo.'

Quantico Tactical also has Black 30-round P-mags 5 for $55+tax. Great price.

Another dealer had .223 stripper clips $7 per 50 in the back right corner of the Expo center.

I feel like this show is getting better and better each time.... last spring they had a show with maybe 6-10 gun dealers and a bunch of junk dealers.

I think one of the oddest dealers at the event is the one towards the back that carries NFA items along with knockoff chicom crap. He will have some decent looking NFA stuff at ballpark prices, but right alongside that he will have 'custom' ar15s with some knockoff optic/rail setup. And the prices on those are pretty steep. It just seems like a weird combination of items to stock.

I liked seeing Quantico Tactical there with some good deals on ammo/magpul. Heck, they had 'real' optics for sale, which is becoming quite the rarity at shows.

I did notice more private sellers at the shows, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. One guy had a Leupold 3.5-10 for $380.

For good or bad, I tend to compare the prices on stuff at gun shows with the prices I can find here on the EE or on the internet in general. I'm a big fan of immediate gratification...gotta have it now....but when the cost is 25% higher, my impatient ass can wait a few days.

I think my biggest gripe is all of the knockoff chicom crap at the shows. I understand that there is a market for this stuff, but it really has taken over. To me, it's getting to the point that I don't expect to see any 'real' rails, optics, etc at the shows. I'm not trying to be a gear queer/snob, I just save my pennies until I can afford the good stuff.

I just stopped by and got a few Glock mags, powder, and some other stuff. I'd say it was an average Fredericksburg show.

Guy in the back right? Had them 10 for $60 with a bunch of nice Colts. Should have gotten some myself.

Stopped in earlier. Disappointed. I might as well have been in Beijing, so much chicom crap floating around. I was hoping to pick up a TLR-2, but I didn't spot a single Streamlight product anywhere in the show. However if I had wanted a NcStar POS laser sight, I would have been in heaven.

In general, the optics selection was very poor. The hand gun selection was actually OK, but everybody always has the same stuff now, at pretty much the same prices. The rifle selection was bad. Just a bunch of ARs of average quality and the odd WASR thrown in for good measure. Aside from that, not much to check out.

Oh, and a lot of seemingly poor quality knives, which held zero interest for me.

I left with nothing.

Yep, I too found the show a complete waste of time, gas driving from C'ville, and aggravation...

Was hoping to find a decent 30mm scope mount... Nothing but UTG and NcStar crap as far as the eye could see...

Except for ammo (mostly Russian, BTW), which pays to buy at a show, it will be long, long time before I go back to a show...

Gone are the shows of the 80's, 90's and early 2000's...

The Showplace has been decent over the last few years. Nothing like the proverbial good ol days, but still a decent show.

I generally buy my ammo at shows to save on shipping costs, but heck, with the free shipping a lot of places are tossing in, if you are
patient and wait for sales, online ammo buys can be the way to go.

Some random Prices:

3rd gen S&W for 299, ( 9mm), 4006 for 325.

Argentinian clone High Power for 325, looked NIB,

Used S&W .357 revolvers for 325

Really used Taurus .38 revolvers for 189,

AK's were sub 500 all over the show.

I should have bought the S&W 4006, but I'm still holding out for a 4043.

Most were sub $500, but not the two "pre-ban Chinese" AK's at the first table selling for $1400 and $1500 each. I just laughed to myself.

The gun prices I must admit were pretty good this time on most things. I came this close to grabbing a Rock River 1911 for $375, but I didn't feel like having my balls kicked in by the missus when i got home for yet another impulse buy. That and i knew my background check would have taken 4 days like last time, so why bother.
