Has anyone received their membership cards yet?

I sent a check before 1/1. It hasn't been cashed and I haven't seen anything in the mail. Honestly, I'm not too disappointed. I've about had it with their attitudes, but until Colonial Shooting Academy opens, I have no where to shoot.

If anyone is a member at Cavalier, please PM me. I'd be interested in pursuing alternatives.

I received mine, but I sent them a check in early November. You do know that Cavalier has a waiting list, right?

I'd give KC a call at BlackCreek and see what's up. I assume that your check has been cashed?

I sent my check at the end of December and had my card back about 2 weeks later.

I sent in my renewal at Black Creek right after I got it and received my card about 2 weeks later.

As far as "attitudes", what do you mean?

You'll see this whenever a thread about Black Creek comes up. When you walk in to sign in, you are certainly not welcomed. You are treated at best as an annoyance, more common with suspicion, occasionally with overt hostility. You are certainly not treated as I would treat a paying customer if I was running a business. If there was a viable local alternative, would anyone really choose to go to Black Creek?

I realize Cavalier has a waiting list and I would like to get on it.

Never felt that way at Black Creek. KC is firm and to the point. He wants to make sure folks don't screw up, get hurt, hurt someone else, tear the place up or get the range in trouble by doing stupid shit.

Why do you think the rules are set up like they are? The pistol range has the roof extended downwards on it because people were shooting over the berm. Then people leaned over, put their elbows on the tables and still shot over the berm so now you can't lean on the table anymore. Last time I was there someone had been shooting the cardboard keepers off the pistol target stands. The tabs are so far down in the bottom/top corners of the steel frames that you'd have to be a really lousy shot to hit that far off the center of your target.

The only complaint I had was the huge increase in membership this year vs. the previous years.

My only complaint with Black Creek is i cant shoot my steel hanging plates there. I have always found kc to be fine just your standard no bs kind of guy.

If you are looking to just shoot pistol, you can always drive down to Fort Lee. They have a open range that the MWR operates on the weekends. Last time I shot there it was $5 , BYO ammo/targets. Just a suggestion.

I'd still go there. I have no dog in this fight - I'm just happy to have a reasonably priced place to go shoot. I think you'll find attitudes pretty much wherever you go, and you're right, Black Creek's no exception. I personally have not had any issues with KC, but have run into an asshat or two when he's not around. I chalk it up to the difficulty of running a range and finding good help these days. OTOH I have not heard of any accidents happening there ever, and the place has been open quite a while. His range, his rules. And yes, if you're shooting FA then this is probably not the place to go :-)

Cavalier is a very nice range, but you'll need to get someone who's a member there to sponsor you, and fill out a form to get on the waiting list. I have not joined up there because of the heavy up front charges, but each to his own.

Colonial looks nice, but it also appears that they're limited to 25 yard ranges. It's nice to shoot indoors in the winter though, and it's got to be cleaner than the other alternatives.

My point is there are no perfect choices, each has it's strengths and weaknesses. Good luck with the search though!

Few rules, hardly anyone there, 100 yd range, fairly low cost of membership.

Downsides: A bit of a drive, very basic setup, range closed for matches one or two weekend days a month (not the whole weekend)

Feel free to send me a PM with questions.

It was my understanding that the waiting list for Cavalier isn't very long anymore, if there even is one. My dad is a member, and I've been wanting to join, but that first year is a little steep ($500 initiation fee, and $250 membership fee), but once that's out of the way, I think it's the best deal around.
They have a lot of nice ranges, and a stocked pond with a campground.

Sorry to hear that. I've never had such an issue there in the 4 years that I've been a member. I'm always greeted warmly by KC or whoever else is at the desk. (and I'm a damn yankee, go figure)

KC and his cohort's attitudes are the exact reason I am no longer a member at BC. After KC accused me of putting holes in the roof of the pistol deck I had reached my limit of his ass-hatery and decided that I could find a better use of my money. (he pointed out several holes that looked like they were from a .44 or .45 and said he wondered if I had done those. I was shooting my KT p32...)

I was a member at Blackcreek before I joined Cavalier. KC was moody and occasionally friendly, but most of the time I got the feeling that I was just an annoyance when I'd come sign in, and would get the "stink eye" from him out on the ranges for no apparent reason.

If someone wants to sponsor NoVaGator instead of me, that's cool too. I'll just harass him until he gives in and brings me along.

I assume KC is the old guy.

I am in VA frequently and stopped by there one Saturday last year when they were having the steel matches. I walked in to office and was immediately accused of walking around the place without having paid, was told it was unsafe, I cannot do that, a whole ration of BS. After I calmed him down and told him I came right here and even pointed at my truck which was right outside, I asked him about the fees for range etc., it was like he really did not want to even discuss it with me.

Typical gun store/range stereotype owner.

Yea I sent mine in sometime in December and got my card back pretty quick.

I personally haven't had a problem with KC or the younger guy(compared to the others) that helped him. Shoot my sbr up there at least once every few months. Overall I've been happy and I've been a member a few years.
