Been travelling a lot to The Old Dominion for business, and am very impressed with its people and places. I'm into horses, hounds and hunting, so when I see an article like this, my blood starts to boil. Here's a heads-up to watch out for some nut-job in the Bedford County area who enjoys slashing the necks of horses. I can think of no better way to guarantee a trip to the local ER or maybe even county morgue for some miscreant torturing my horses or hounds. There are some damn sick people out there.

VIRGINIA HORSE SLASHER SOUGHT

Law enforcement authorities in Virginia are seeking those responsible for slashing the necks of three horses in Bedford County.

Bedford County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Major Rickey Gardner said that on Jan. 28 the horses' owner contacted the Sheriff's Department after discovering the injured animals in their Montvale pasture. All the horses had sustained neck lacerations approximately eight inches long and four inches deep. Sheriff's Deputies and Animal Control were able to recover some evidence at the scene, he said.

All the horses received veterinary treatment for their injuries and are recovering.

"Fortunately, whoever did this did not know enough to locate the horses' jugular vein," Gardner said.

If caught, those responsible could face animal cruelty charges.

Anyone with information about the incident should call CrimeStoppers at 888/798-5900, or the Bedford County Sheriff's Office at 540/586-7827.

I grew up in Bedford. Stuff like this( although not this severe usually) pops up every few years.

My guess is the horse owners pissed somebody off that was too chicken shit to go after them directly.
