Laws pertaining to shooting ranges in WV?

I live in Berkeley County WV in a small sub-division and have about 7 acres of land. I am thinking about putting in range on my property. My sub-division regulations specifically say no hunting, but say nothing about target practice or discharging firearms. Berkeley county does have a noise ordinance, but it excludes shooting and hunting activities per West Virginia Code 61-6-23. I don't have any neighbors that are close enough to be bothered by the "noise" so other than the noise aspect, is there anything else I need to take into account? I also have several layouts that would ensure there is nothing down range. I am assuming, as long as I have the appropriate back stop I should be good to go? Any input would be great. If it matters this would only be for personal use and not open to the public.

Thanks
Dave

Don't know about the county, but the state does restrict discharge of firearms - §20-2-58. Shooting across road or near building or crowd; penalty.

The way it reads you have to be 500' from any dwelling/house, including your own (which is stupid IMO).

Where in Berkeley County? Inwood resident here.

Time to buy a can, shoot relatively quietly, no one needs to know (unless you're a really bad shot)

EFI, inc needs a call They might know where one can buy a nice can.

Bubbles,
Thanks for that information. I guess it looks like it's a no go then. I'm far enough from the neighbors, but would be close to my own home. And for those of you that asked, I live in Hedgesville. The suggestion for a can is a good idea, might need to look into that.

Thanks again
Dave

JMichael, you said you didn't want to go all the way to Berkeley Springs to shoot. Where is there to shoot in Berkeley Springs. I thought they just recently shut down the Sleep Creek range.

This man was fined for hunting within 500' of a dwelling, but he was hunting next to a subdivision.

Now that sleepy creek is shut down, does anyone know of a good place to shoot? Seems like there aren't any ranges in the area that are open during the week or if they are open they make you drop some serious coin for a membership.

I live in hedgesville but am willing to drive (with in reason)

I purchased 6.6 acres in a gated subdivision in berkeley co to build on...rules actually state no hunting but I can target shoot (actually in the bi laws).....before that we actually ended up building a range on our hunting property in berkeley springs since some people that frequented the sleepy creek range had no concept of safety. I do not think it would matter about the 500 feet since the neighbors wont be bothered.

Hey I live in berkeley county also, anyone interested in being friends? I don't know alot of people and it would be great to get to know others who already share my interest without hearing "why do you need a gun" over and over and over.

I will never ask to borrow money and expect the same courtesy!

DBS179, my appologies for taking your thread off topic it just really sucks to know the people I meet. they are all very nice but you can tell its fake and we have nothing in common.

Jixxer,

I would be interested in meeting up with some of the Berkeley County crew, I missed the last meet due to a conflict, I am also in two antiique car clubs. Glad to hear that you wno't want to borrow money, because I am a cheap bastard.
