Probably the big reason is, that less then a block away is the worlds largest collection of Datacenters. If that somehow gets broken into and goes into lock down, shit will fly. Big time.

From my inside source, the feds realized that this was way more of a challenge to secure with the time and manpower and moved it for more secure areas (I'm trying to be polite).
NATO and the DNC are still scheduled to be swamped by protestors who will not obey any orders given. Several groups have been denied permits to protest at the DNC and they openly stated that they will continue to protest in the streets against any opposing forces.

Damn, I am hoping for another so-called police riot by the CPD like I watched on the tube back in '68. If I remember right the last one didn't do anything to help the Dems cause.

The part of me that likes to look at youtube videos of car crashes on icy roads and negligent discharges is disappointed. The adult part is very glad. G-8 (and to a lesser extent NATO) conferences are like locusts. They attract vast devastation with no net gain to the host city. Chicago had an exposure in the Billions of dollars. Rahm had rocks in his head when he agreed to this. Of course, this keeps the spectre of Obama's hometown cops providing a world class hippie beat down off the nightly news, too...
