Need help assembling a Retro upper in the Peoria area.
I have collected the parts to assemble the upper for my retro project, but lack the tools to assemble it myself. Can anyone recommend a gunsmith in the Peoria area that does good work with ARs? Don't need any refinishing, just installing the barrel, flash hider and gas tube, and checking headspace.
Dave at Pekin gun should be able to help. I have the tools except the headspace gage.
I have the tools, and if its nothing too bad, I'd be willing to do it. I don't have a headspace gauge though.
Dave, eh? I was over there last Tuesday...wish I had known then he worked on ARs.
The receiver is assembled, what needs to be done is the slip ring and springs assembled to the barrel nut, then the barrel, gas tube, front sling swivel and flash hider installed. If one of you guys could help me get it assembled, I can get it headspaced later to make sure it's GTG with the bolt i'm using.
I can do that.
Shoot me a PM or email, I'm in Washington.
If you have enough beer, I would make the trip down from Kewanee to do it...

Krazny has kindly offered to give me a hand with it.

He lives pretty close, too.
Krazny13 kindly helped me get this upper assembled....finally got headspace checked OK, so I'm GTG! My Retro project isn't finished yet....still waiting for a No-DAK receiver....but I'm well on the way.
Thanks again, Krazny13!

Anytime sir.
If anyone needs upper work in the Peoria area, just shoot me a PM.
Krazny, sent you a IM about parts availability in the P Town area.
if you make a retro upper get a retro lower from nodak spud you might as well make it as correct as possible.

Didn't get it. Mind resending it?
As far as parts are concerned, I don't have any for sale. I have a small spares cache for my own stuff, but its not much and mostly stuff like cotter pins, firing pins, etc. If there's enough interest, I'd be willing to stock AR small parts. Stuff like roll pins, firing pins, maybe a bolt. Stuff that when it breaks, you want a replacement ASAP.
We'll see.
I was simply saying that my wife has a small parts kit store in Peoria. It used to be her cousin running it for her but he passed away. She deals mostly with LE and firefighters now, by appointment only. Lots of things are back ordered but if you ever need pins, springs etc., she's got it. Uppers are limited now but she should have a full line by mid summer along with Midwest Industries stuff. Just got a few M261 kits that are in nice shape. I'm not trying to break COC, she's not big enough to be a industry partner on ARFCOM yet, but I'm hoping that's in her future.

That was my plan....I put it on my M&P lower until I had a completed Retro lower. Speaking of that, I got my No-DAK receiver from my FFL yesterday......it looks great but is way darker than my upper, it's a very dark gray. Looks good with the lower parts I have so far...which came from late A1 export rifles...but the upper and lower definitely don't color match and I wanted a Vietnam era 603 clone. I still need a mag release assembly, a disconnector, the take down pins, and some detents for various FCG components....once I have a complete rifle I'll have to decide how to deal with this.
