If you have a CCW and move to a different county.

Just posting this as an FYI;

If you get your CCW and then move to a different county, you're supposed to notify the issuing county in writing within 30 days.

I got my CCW in Arapahoe in 2007. It comes up for renewal in June. I moved to Clear Creek in 2009 and notified Arap. I went to CC to renew yesterday with the $13 for CBI and $50 for the sheriff. They informed me that since it was issued in Arapahoe, they would need to treat my renewal as a brand new application. $100 for the sheriff, $52.50 for CBI. I did some more things at the county office, then went back. I offered that since to CBI it was a renewal, the certified $13 would work and I'd just pay the extra $50 to Clear Creek. No go.

I did call another county to see if this was standard practice, and it is, BUT he stated that if I had notified Arapahoe of the move I should still be able to renew in Arapahoe. I'll find out on Tuesdayish how Arapahoe feels about it.

I would love the state to recognize a person's right and do away with all that bureaucratic bullshit completely.

I can dream.

Lame. I called today to ask about a replacement for my CCW. My county, gave me in 2008, what looked like a poor college fake ID.

Well, it has fallen apart over the last 4 years. I am going in Monday to find out if I have to submit an app.

I will keep the crappy CCWP and keep my fingers crossed until next April if they do not take my old one and get me a new copy.

There is usually like a $15 replacement fee for lost or damaged. I remember when I got mine in Arapahoe, it looked like a license more or less, just not as durable. My buddy filed in Douglas county and his was just a piece of paper that didn't fold well to fit in his wallet.

I hope so. When I got it kind of was like WTF. It is oversized, won't fit in a wallet. It has been floating in my bill fold and I can see through the middle of it. I'll update when I go down there, hope it's a small fee like that.

I got mine in DC in 2009 and it is a license-sized piece of paper lamenated in thick plastic. It's been holding up well but has yet to go through the washer!

Good thread to remind folks of the process!

Sounds like revenue generation at its finest.

Update:

Went into Arapahoe about 11:30. I had checks, proof of training, etc. Needed a utility bill from current address. I got that worked out. There was someone already in processing and 1 guy in front of me. He went in pretty soon, but it was taking a while. Finally one of the process guys came out and said the system was down, rebooting computers, etc.

While I was waiting, 3 more guys came in for CCW. Once I got in, quick check of checks, paperwork, they notarized my renewal and took my picture. New Canon instead of the webcam it used to be. They just changed over the system, as well as the permits they issue. Looks more like a driver's license now. They asked how long I waited and I said about an hour. He said it was 3 hours last week. The only people in the waiting area were CCW apps. Overall, took me about 20 minutes.

I know this popped up somewhere; I asked about difference between CCW and CHP. He said CCW was old version. Now it is a concealed HANDGUN permit and not a weapon permit. I expressed my disappointment that I can no longer carry my bazooka

FWIW, I stopped by the sheriff's office today and no charge for a replacement. Lady there said they have a much better card making system now.

Hey, if you have a SBR with a less than 12" barrel and can conceal it on your person...go for it.

Wow, learn something new everyday (yeah I've been accused of being thick headed in the past). I thought that if a permit holder moved a new permit would be required by the new county of residence. Didn't realize a permit holder can have a permit from a county not a resident of. I guess I need to reread the statute. Glad you had a relatively easy process.
