CCW Application process timeline thread

Hey Guys,
In the class 3 section we have a section on timelines for NFA paperwork submissions.
As I finally just submitted my paperwork for my CCW yesterday, I thought it could be useful to have something similar in the HTF to give people a better idea of what to expect with theirs.
So here's what I got:
Date Submitted: 2/10/12
County: Boulder
Date appointment set: TBD
Date for fingerprints/photo: TBD
Date Approved/Denied: TBD
Date Card Recieved: TBD
If I missed out on anything please feel free to add!

Average time across the board in CO for CCW is 90 days. Maybe less maybe not, just like a BG check, sometimes you walk in and out in 5 minutes sometimes an all day event. Here in weld co they have been between 45-90 days.
Keep in mind every co has different ways of processing the application. In weld you drop off your application the same day you have set for fingerprints, pay and wait. Once approved you pick up your permit and leave once more a happy camper.
Renewal is easier, just same time frame for waiting.

El Paso Co- 3 weeks exactly to my mailbox. Pretty good and my wife got hers in the same amount of time. A co-worker received his in 2 weeks.

Yeah, I just read my receipt and it says it will be issued at 90 days if there are no unresolved issues.

The Denver area counties are notorious for this.

Adams county i was quoted as 80 days.... i they are required by state law to let you know one way or the other by 90 days, however if you havent heard anything from them by 80 i would start calling... you may need to get an extention.... My dad got his from Jeff Co ( the most up to date and constitutional county around here) in 81 days...

submitted my application, picture, and fingerprints at the SO in Pueblo county, and 6 weeks later my card was in my mailbox. This was about 5 months ago.

In Larimer County my original application too k ~ 4-5 weeks, renewal was ~ 3 weeks.

Can you tell me how long you applied for your permit? Was it recently?
Yes, applied on Jan. 17th 2012 and picked it up on February 10th 2012.

Jefferson County took the full 90 days. That was in 2008.

It takes this long average in weld due to Sheriff Cook staying busy signing off NFA paperwork. Yes i know he has others doing the ccw thing, those folks stay busy he told me last visit. I obtained my CCW when Weld was one of the few counties actually issuing permits, before it became state wide law.

You're ok. They'll charge a late fee of $15, but otherwise they'll treat you like a renewal. Contact Larimer Sheriff and get the ball rolling on this.

The next section is from the renewal document from Larimer Sheriff's site.
CHP renewal requirements
* You may renew up to 120 days prior to your expiration (4 months). A renewal letter and application will be mailed to you at that time.
* In order to renew you must submit these items in person:
1. a renewal application,
2. $50 cash/check payable to the Sheriff’s Office,
3. $13 certified check or money order payable to CBI
4. a notarized affidavit stating that you are still qualified to possess a permit per the requirements of 18-12-203 (1a-g)
* If you do not renew by your expiration date, there will be a $15 late fee. By law, if you do not renew within 6 months after your expiration your permit will permanently expire, no exceptions.
* You will need to bring the above documents and payments here to the Sheriff’s Office headquarters in person because we need to take a new photograph of you and witness your signature on your application. We are located at 2501 Midpoint Drive, Ft. Collins. Our office hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, except holidays.
* The renewal process usually takes 2-4 weeks. Once CBI sends us your results, we will mail your new permit which will now expire 5 years from that date.

Print the paper work, fill it out, take it down to the business office with your money (need two checks), get finger prints and picture. Done!

So anyone know where I can get my training course? I have my CCW from ND but there was no shooting requirement for the class. I had a two hour classroom setting but no range time. Can I just show my current CCW from ND?

I'm probably a bit too far for you, as I'm located in Fort Collins. There's a ton of places you can get classes from in the Denver area though.

If your out of state CCW is current thay should accept it as the training cert. That also depends on what county you reside in.

Put my paperwork in mid November in Broomfield and got the call right after Christmas, so about a month - not too bad considering the holidays.
In the end it didn't matter since I was a new CO resident and carrying on a FL non-res (perfectly legal)

I thought CO didn't reconize non resident CCW's? So I can be carring on my ND CCW while I am waiting for my CO because I am a new resident?

I believe you can carry on your old permit for 30 days when you become a new resident. But I am NOT 100% sure on that. Call your sheriff's department to double check.

If you are a new resident you can carry on any other state's permit that CO honors (says nothing about resident/non-resident) for 90 days from the day your CO DL was issued, so moving from VA to CO I used a non-resident FL permit.
It's a little known section in the code....props to my wife for finding it - she's a lawyer and loves reading this shit.
18-12-213. Reciprocity.
(1) A permit to carry a concealed handgun or a concealed weapon that is issued by a state that recognizes the validity of permits issued pursuant to this part 2 shall be valid in this state in all respects as a permit issued pursuant to this part 2 if the permit is issued to a person who is:
(a) Twenty-one years of age or older; and
(b) (I) A resident of the state that issued the permit, as demonstrated by the address stated on a valid picture identification that is issued by the state that issued the permit and is carried by the permit holder; or
(II) A resident of Colorado for no more than ninety days, as determined by the date of issuance on a valid picture identification issued by Colorado and carried by the permit holder.
(2) For purposes of this section, a "valid picture identification" means a driver's license or a state identification issued in lieu of a driver's license.

Wait, you mean you were just guessing when I was in your class?
Kidding, on another note, I applied for my CCW here in Larimer, just last friday, so we'll see how long it takes for it to show up magically in my mailbox, sheriff's office accepted your papers without any problems, also really liked that you included a copy of your certification.
If anybody needs a CCW class, the-fly is the guy to see!

WHOA WAIT JUST A DAMN MINUTE!!!! Were I come from them are fighting words!!!!! I am not from that commie state I am from Wisconsin. A different Commie state...
but they are getting better. They are now a CCW friendly state now.

Guy on Co-ar15.com just posted that El Paso County won't even give an appointment to submit his paper work until May 10th. Anyone else have the same experience?

Alright my CCW showed up finally, so that makes it 7 weeks to the day. I guess it's also now called a CHP.

I guess I got lucky because it only took Denver 47 for mine. I did ask a friend who works at DPD hw to check on the status for me and then 3 days later they sent me my letter to come pick it up. Don't know if him checking had anything to do with the timeline or not though.
