NEW YORK - Forbes Magazine ranked the top 10 safest cities in America, and two of them are in Colorado.

According to the magazine's research, Colorado Springs ranked at No. 8 while Aurora came in at No. 9.

According to the magazine's research, Colorado Springs ranked at No. 8 while Aurora came in at No. 9.

Forbes Magazine ranked the cities based on their violent crime rates as reported by the FBI and their traffic fatality rate given to them by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They researched 72 cities in all. They only looked at cities with a population more than 250,000.

Colorado Springs has a car-fatality rank of No. 11 while their violent-crime rank is No. 18. Aurora has a car-fatality rank of No. 18 and a violent-crime rank of No. 12.

Compared to some of the hell holes that make up L.A. that don't have 250,000 people (Van Nuys, Long Beach), it's very safe out here. I remember when folks would warn me about downtown Colo. Sprgs. when I first moved here. It reminded me of a safer Burbank.

I will admit next to detroit or LA this doesnt seem to bad. But having grown up here in CO, Living in loveland and then living in Aurora, were I dont go toe the aurora mall after dark. its a big difference

I had the same reaction.

There are much safer places in the Denver Metro than Aurora. Hell, pick any other suburb and it will be safer than Aurora.
