Boomershoot 2012 AAR
Boomershoot 2012:
Saturday, set up and dial in the rifles to 380 yards. Blam away with the 300 RUM, FAL, AR-15.
Hit the steel gongs more often than not, so I'm thinking good to go. Retired for the day and went back to the motel for a steak dinner.
Sunday, excellent weather. Sun and gentle breezes in the morning. Targets have been set up. 3" targets @ 380 yards, 6" target @ 680 yards. After 40 shots, I discover the scope rings are loose on the FAL. I put the FAL away and break out the 300 RUM. After 25 rounds, I get a bad shoulder set and the RUM slams into my shoulder at the same time I hit a Boomer. OK, that's it for me. I park my butt in the observers chair while Tumbleweed goes at it. 3 Boomers later, I'm, starting to hate him.
Not satisfied with humiliating me with his superior marksmanship, he breaks out his M1A and starts slamming on a steel gong from a distance of 680 yards, over iron sites.
All in all, it was great fum, if ever so humbling.
That sounds like fum! I wanna go next year
You should fo, it's a lot of fum .

View of the field, targets are placed on the close berm and up the hillside. Ranges are WAG, some say 725 at top. I dialed 7 on the M1A and held just a tad low to hit.
View of the hillside, that top silhouette stands out when contrasted against the dirt. I couldn't see the little boxes of boomerite, just the 3 contrasted silhouettes. There were a few more but too well blended in the background for this old nekkid eye to pick up.
