My heart goes out to the family. One child accidently shoots and kills the other.
I can't even imagne what the family is going thru.

Sad, but I will bet money that the gun banners will try to use this to push their newest trigger lock agenda.

That and the officer won't be held to the same standard as the mother of that boy who got a hold of a gun and took it to school in Bremerton.

I said something along these lines at work yesterday... Talking about hitting a bees nest with a baseball bat. I still stand by it.

I feel for the family, this mistake is something that will mess with them for the rest of their days. The dad must be going through hell.

In the Bremerton case, the mother & BF both had felony records, so they had no biz even looking at a gun. Not dismissing the fact that leaving a loaded gun in the glove compartment is a stupid move.

Recall that then-SPD head honch Kerlikowski had his Glock lifted from the glove box in his car. I'm not understanding why firearms safety is seemingly disregarded by some PD personnel.

Same reason when, I was detained by PCSO for open carrying, that one of the officers RACKED the slide, THEN removed the magazine.....After attempting to advise the officer of his folly, and being told to be quiet, he handed the weapon off to a female officer, where she gave the best 'you fucking retard' look at the officer handing her the gun, where she promptly racked the slide and removed the chambered round..

Other than the unlawful detention, the scary part was, I was carrying a G17, they were carrying G22, identical in both size and function.....Makes you wonder how he even qualifies....

The same officer didn't get why I laughed at him, when he told me that 'no one needs to carry two spare clips'.........as I'm standing there looking at three mag holders on his belt.....

And a 3 yr old just shot and killed self in car at gas station in Tacoma, I think. The mother's boyfriend put the pistol under the front seat and went to put gas in car, mother went in store, kid got out of car seat..........

The kicker?, the boyfriend had a CPL!

And they are talking about filing charges because "he is required to have it on him if he has a cpl...." Or some bs like that

It will be really interesting to see how each of these cases is handled in terms of potential charges filed.

What ever 'standard" they hold him to will pale in comparison to the grief and suffering outside of the legal issues in this tragedy.

And FYI, the officer happened to be a very nice guy.

How about a little respect and class shown for the family before we run off on a cop bashing theme?

I agree that the loss of a child far outweighs whatever penalty the legal system may impose. That applies to all 3 recent instances of children gaining access to firearms with tragic outcomes. But should these cases not be handled in a uniform manner, something is very wrong. For all we know, the CCW holder in Tacoma was a nice guy, too. The mother and her boyfriend in the Bremerton incident, despite past troubles, may have been working hard to overcome their problems and better themselves, too. It's not disrespectful or lacking in class to discuss this, especially outside of the presence of the involved parties. And if you'll review my posting history, I think that you will find that I have been fair and balanced towards law enforcement. If anything, I have given them more lattitude than many other members.

Completely agree. IF the law of the land is that if you leave a loaded gun somewhere where it is used by a child to injure or kill themselves or another, than that law should be applied to everyone. I don't recall a "unless you have a badge" clause. With rights comes responsabilities. How hard is it to bolt a pistol safe in your trunk, under your front seat...

Or just keep the stupid thing on your person! Or not carry it.

ETA: if It must be left it should have been at least empty.

I wanna say this MNQB'ing, but still common sense should rule.

So let me get this straight.

You are deeply concerned that LE may receive more latitude than an ordinary citizen yet admit a long history of you yourself granting LE more latitude?

Yup. And it's not contradictory. Context counts. If someone who does not ride the cop haters bandwagon is calling for uniform accountability, shouldn't that tell you something? How does being a law enforcement officer excuse someone from being accountable for carelessness/negligence that directly lead to an unnecesary death?

Where was all of your compassion and understanding when Troy Meade made a mistake?
