NHRPC PRACTICAL RIFLE FEB 18 - NJSP PATROL RIFLE Q-COURSE (SHOT & SCORED AS A MATCH)
Hi,
This month we will be running the NJSP Patrol Rifle Qual Course as a match. We've done the 50Y CQB CoF but this one goes out to 100Y. There are standing, kneeling, and prone shots with position changes involved. This match is great for newer shooters as well. Targets will be either IDPA or reduced B-27. It will be shot as a common firing line per relay with one shooter at a time firing on the clock. Three 20 round magazines are required. You will be required to shoot to slidelock and reload.
Any modern sporting rifle may shoot the course. We will recognize 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place shooters in the following categories:
1 - Iron sights (non-kalashnikov)
2 - Red Dot
3 - Magnified optic
4 - Kalashnikov
There are three shooting relays available. 0830, 1100, and 1300. 0830 helps with setup, 1300 helps clean up. Does that mean that 1100 fills up first? ;-)
You may register twice if you want to shoot two different firearm/optic classes, but you must fire the second round with a later relay.
Online registration is required.

Thanks, and hoping to see you out there with us!

By way of an FYI - This year we will be mixing things up with a lot more combinations of short course matches, ones focused on certain calibers, more inclusion of a second gun (pistol stage/transition) and still others will be precision only. We are also going to do an all moving targets match.

Is it 」20, the same as a usual match?
This one let's do $20 member, and $25 guests. It's usually 30.
Anyone who wants to come out in February and shoot with us deserves a little break.

Is there still space available for this match. Its been a while since I've had a chance to get out and shoot and this weekend is looking better and better.
Spots are open still in all relays.

only on my phone, I wouldn't trust it enough to do a match with it

Jerald still has mine, if you can get it from him you can borrow it. I probably won't make the match even though the CoF looks good, Saturday looks too good not to go skydiving.
Scores are posted! Sorry for the delay, I was down in Taneytown MD yesterday shooting the first match of the Mayberry Precision Rifle Series.
Thanks to everyone who came out, and especially to those who traveled to shoot with us on Saturday. Get in touch if you believe there is any typos on the score sheet.

A time listed in green indicates that it is a qualifying time.
A point score listed in green indicates that it is a qualifying point score.
If both of these boxes are green, it indicates that you have successfully passed the NJSP Service Rifle Qualification Standards.
If one of them is not green, well, that shows you what you have to work on! Most shooters easily posted a qualifying time, but lacked the accuracy to meet the standard.
We will be running this one again to give shooters another chance to Q up after some practice time. I would like to see all of our regular shooters clear the bar.

guess I know what I need to work on
I knew I pulled a couple shots way wide right after I let em go..... my own fault

great time! can't wait till the next one. (I will be getting out more.... really, I will)

I'd call a qualifying score and a fourth place finish a pretty damn good day.
Of those that actually qualified you had the fastest time at 63.0 seconds.
I said it in the briefing - this one is made or lost on accuracy, not time.
36% of the shooters qualified, and the numbers tell the story why.
........ Nobody listens......

slow is smooth, smooth is fast
I neglected that a bit.... my own fault, of course

Big thanks to Freddy and others. I'd definitely like to shoot this one again - good match.
Freddy, please run this CoF again. Preferably on a day with crappy weather so I don't have to choose between skydiving and shooting.

I liked it, but it was not quite difficult enough and too short.
Next time I would like to see us start from rest or low ready so we don't start with a sight picture.
The 11 am relay started from low ready for pretty much all the drills other than the prone stuff.

That's the one I shot with.
This was the strict Q-Course. Maybe I will modify it a little and add some pistol transition exercises on steel in. That's always popular. Maybe add a side match to work the steel on the long range. Or I could bump up the round count.

I started from low ready every time - just a habit
I don't play to beat others

Like I said, this one was ALL about accuracy and not speed.
It really didn't matter how people started, because that time saving would be miniscule. Although it's correct to point out you would get more training benefit out of doing it as realistically as possible (I have some other ideas....) You could have added almost another 100 seconds to nearly everyone's time, and it wouldn't have helped in terms of Q or NO GO. If you moved 10 shots from the octagon the circle into it, that's an extra 30 points you pick up. If you moved 10 from the target edge to the circle, it's an increase of FIFTY.
The primary goal of this was to qualify. For some it morphs into trying to shoot as fast as the next guy when they get caught up in it. It can be a delicate balancing act to strike that precise point in your shooting where you are shooting with maximum time economy, while keeping all the shots in the circle. I would say that everybody there can shoot fast enough, and everybody there could shoot accurately enough to pass this. The challenge is to put those two skills at equal distance from eachother... with yourself in the middle, as the fulcrum.
Why they did, or didn't on Saturday is the single question they should be taking home to chew on.
