DPS putting it down HARD on the 101 today

Headed to an install down on the 101 and Thomas (west side). Down around Glendale, they must have had a car stopped every 1/8th of a mile. I think I counted 8 troopers. On the way back (about an hour later), same story. They were all lined up under the bridge at Grand (iirc) with one guy running radar(lidar?). Picking them off like flies.

Watch your speed out there!

I live just over a mile west from there. You should stop in sometime.

The speed differential on the 101 is too crazy to ignore. Motor homes and landscaper trucks doing 50, average drivers doing everything from 65 to 80, and the rest doing 80 and up.

I can say without reservation that since moving here, I have come to hate the 10 with a passion. 101 is a close second.

And I think I figured out why....the roads are in great shape, the weather is awesome 99 % of the time. People just don't pay attention and give the road the respect it needs. Fuck, I catch myself looking at the mountains and following doves with my eyes going "pitchew!"

In the shitty midwest, we had awful roads, snow, ice, floods, locusts....you name it...and there was no where near the shenanigans that I see on these highways. You were *forced* to pay attention.

My new Pre-Runner Sport is not helpful...I've never been a speeder until I got this truck. It keeps 2K rpms at 85 mph. I lose track too easy. It's a matter of time before my perfect record is ruined.

I don't mind the 101, but the 10 fucking blows. I avoid it like the plague.

FTR, I LOVE DPS. They've always treated me really well. I've been stopped 5 or 6 times that I can remember. Never gotten a citation from them. Even though I deserved one on most OK, all of those occasions.

2 of the most memorable? Heading to Havasu for Spring Break from NAU. Doing about 90 in my truck, following my friend who was doing the same. Trooper stopped us south of Kingman, both of us. Chatted us up for a bit and handed us each a warning. Reminded us to stay safe and how he remembered being a college kid with no money. Reminded us our gas money would take us farther if we slowed it down a little.

Other time? Rolled a Chevy Cavalier several times just north of Sunset Point due to inclement weather and poor judgement mostly. Trooper realized I didn't have a way to get home so he secured my pistol and took me back to the "office" in Cordes Junction (iirc). After he was done doing whatever it was he had to do, he drove me back to Phoenix in his cruiser. Dropped me off at Midway Chevy on I-17 and Bell. Handed me my pistol and said have a nice day.

In all seriousness, I don't know what "management" at DPS is doing, but they're doing it fucking right. I've never ran into a trooper, even while doing his/her job, that I wouldn't have a beer with.

Thanks, we have good people here. It is because they give us a gun and a badge, and let us do our job. City agencies (not all, but a lot) officers can't take a shit with out a supervisor approval.

I work at the Night Vision plant at 52nd/Broadway. That means I have to drive through the 10/60 transition every morning. I don't think there is a more poorly thought-out interchange in the state. Everyone is moving over 3-5 lanes all at once to either get to their exit or to keep from being forced off.

This morning there was actually a car upside down in the 52nd/Broadway intersection.

I drive through that miserable intersection every day too, on my way to 48th and Washington. Seems like there is an accident every day on the 60W between McClintock and Priest also.

Well, ADOT did not put a lot of thought into it when it was designed, or redesigned...

275 / 696 / 5 interchange in Michigan is worse, believe it or not. Now imagine it with snow falling at an inch an hour, or icy mix coming down...

My point, dead on.
Like other have mentioned, too many distracted drivers and people just letting the right foot rest a bit heavy, often coupled with nonsensical or inane highway design.
I've had people tailgating the XM211 I was driving (at 60MPH) so closely I think they were looking up at the bumperettes, and others cutting in sans signals and so quickly all I could do is deathgrip the wheel and wait for the crunch.
Driving on I-17 south by the I-10 turnoff, I almost always see someone dive from the far left lane across the gore point to get to the I-10 exit. 101, I've seen people driving in the breakdown lane to pass.

My one run-in with AZDPS was for an obscured plate (did a trail ride around Crown King, the truck had mud all over it). The officer saw I had current reg and insurance, then leaned on the door to ask where I'd been. And then realized why he'd stopped me. Poor guy had reddish mud all over his sleeve and some of the front of his shirt.

I remember driving through there from Brighton to Farmington Hills to see my Grand Parents.

Most of the cops around here are pretty cool guys. I've been pulled over a number of times, and have yet to get a ticket in almost 10 years here. Most of the times, we end up talking guns, and part with a warning.

I was surprised as hell when I moved out here, and the first DPS officer I saw was helping a guy change his tire on the side of the road. Good luck getting California Highway Patrol to help out with that.

Saw quite a few DPS units on the 93 this afternoon, way more than usual. Hell, the last few times I've driven up to kingman I've seen BP on the side of the road.

No shit. I rarely drive freeways and had to go from 50 to 0 in like 70 yards. My car don't stop on a dime like everyone elses.

They had a super fucked up fatal this week up there, so they are trying to slow down the speeds a bit...

Best money a driver can spend.....Valentine One! Team Polizei 144's record setting BMW M5 used this as their sole detector for a reason.
