I just sold my Sun Devil but I really liked it. I painted my lower with the AZ sunset in the lettering. Good lower just a little pricey It was used on my 7.62x39 AR which now I only have the Sun Devil upper reciever with the barrel and bolt.

I know they make good stuff. I have one of thier billet uppers matched to a Quentin Defense lower. They are GTG.

I have a SD lower and like it. I also have some other Billet pieces that were cut by them by bear the mark of another company. I like their stuff. Quentin Defense does Billet as well and his stuff looks good.

I tried to get one of their Zombie lowers awhile back but the wait time was so long I ended up going with AGP instead. AGP got me a lower on the same day for half the price Sun Devil wanted for their lower.

I have to ask: forged lowers are generally stronger and cheaper, why go with a billet?

One of my friends worked there part time. Im not sure if they still have em but they made some lowers that had "hippies" as the fire setting on the switch.

No reason in particular besides that I've never built one and I like the look of a matched set.

I have an AZ Armory roll marked lower that is built by Sun Devil. At the gun show, he had a booth, it was only about 20 more than the DPMS and RRA lowers at the other booths. I supported local, have my state flag on my lower, and doubt I will ever have problems with it.

I did end up getting one of the $50 PSA lower's. If I knew then what I know now, I think I would have passed and waited for another PSA sale. BUT no regrets on my first build.

ETA: Pic of said lower.

I have 2 SD upper/lower combos, one I built my 6x45mm on and the other I built my 300 Blackout SBR on.

I've heard the opposite about the strength... billets stronger, but not cheaper. YMMV. I guess it comes down to Wrangler jeans vs Lee jeans.... which one do you like better. A couple pluses about Sun Devil is 1) Local business 2) You know they are good when he is making them for a lot of other manufacturers with great reputations. Also, Dave is a great guy.

Why Sundevil refuse's to use the better grade of aluminum is beyond me IMHO there is no benifit over a forgeing other then cosmertic .

Uppers are where all the high-pressure stuff happens, and the billet lowers look a lot cooler........ especially the ones with integrated trigger guards. I'm real happy with my SD lower, it looks good, fit is excellent and it looks good.

I have a lower from SD rollmarked by a different manufacturer, kinda like the AZ Armory deal above. Really nice lower.

I read on another forum where dave responded that a lot of people think the aluminum he's using is bad 6061 I think but he said something along the lines like there are different grades of it and this is the same stuff used in air craft landing gear. He prefers it over the 7x since it's less brittle

I'm curious if anyone has seen or heard of one of his uppers or lowers fail because he uses a 6xxx compared to 7xxx aluminum? I've been using a SD upper and lower on my 3 gun rifle for around 4 years and never had a problem and I put that rifle through hell.

I have one of the AZ Armory marked lowers as well and they (Sun Devil) are GTG. I got it for the AZ flag logo Last build was on an AGP lower. Any future lower purchases will probably be more AGP's because I like those guys and they are right by my parents place.

I'm using a billet upper/lower on my current build simply because it looks different than the next guys. I have 2 other rifles with forged receivers and they both work fine. I've also used a polymer lower and it too worked fine. The billet is nicer looking, comes with some extras, (receiver tensioning screw, rear takedown detent screw) and sure as hell wont be confused with a rack full of AR's. Don't like them...don't buy them. But don't get worked up because there another choice out there. The only AZ lower I'd be hesatent about is TKS and thats only because they are finikey about fitting polymer magazines. The USGI mags work great, anything other and it's a crapshoot if it'll fit.

I've built at least 7 guns using their lowers, and one with their upper. No problems at all. Its all good stuff.

The hippies lower was a custom run of two they did for me. I paid for the machine setup, but I'm guessing they could run these now as with any of their other custom lowers.

That's the second custom lower order I've put in and they have been fantastic to work with. Aside from them being very nice folks, they are also a local business. I don't know about you folks, but I'll pay a few bucks more if it means I can keep a small business afloat in my home town.
