What Gun Do You Use For Deer Gun Season?
I've surrently got a 12 gauge HR break action with a rifled barrel. Zeiss scope.
Thinking of picking up something new in the near future. So basically what have you used for deer in Ohio? (other than crossbows, I've got plenty).
mossberg 835 with scope or rem 870 with rifle sights, just depends on the mood

oh both rifled barrels
savage 212 with federal sabots = 3in groups at 200yds
Just one season but dropped 4 this year with it.
Is OH slug gun only?
If so, that's going to suck since I just purchased a new 6.8 from ARP...
FN SLP.

I use a dowel rod for a mag tube block. Later this evening I'll post pictures of its kills.
The only think I don't like is the rail is a Weaver rail instead of Picatinny. LaRue mounts won't fit on a Weaver rail.
Mine came with a rifled choke. I have not tried it, but I have read that they work very well. It shoots pumpkin balls very well.
I have 3 weapons ( could have 4 soon) for The Ohio Gun Season. Gun 1,Savage Bolt Action 210 the 2 gen with the better mag box. Rifled barrel with a 3x9 scope. Its my site in the stand all day gun. Gun 2, Mossberg 500 with a Rifled barrel using a red dot. Its my walking and brush gun. Gun 3 my Super Red Hawk in 454,But shoot hopped up 45 long colt loads. Also set up with a red dot.
And if the Ohio law changes allowing Pistol caliber carbines. I have a Rossi lever gun in 45 long Colt. It's killed a few pig, would love to deer hunt with it.
A 1948 Browning Auto-5. Got a Hastings rifled slug barrel for it last year. It's a shooter for sure.
I shot an H&R Break-action 20Ga with the heavy bull barrel and a scope while I was sighting in my A5. Man was it a shooter, and the recoil was almost non existent. I liked it so much, I want to buy one at some point; in 20Ga also.
1861 Springfield Repro loaded with Minie Ball.
I've been thinking about picking one of those up for HD. Maybe I'll try to kill two birds with one stone.

blackpowder or shotgun, any handgun over .357 w/straight walled cartridges and a barrel 5 inch or longer is all we get. some nonsense about bullet carry.
BTW, I didn't mention the Black Powder stuff. I slipped and hit my head a few years back and bought a TC Encore in 54 cal. The reason I say slipped and hit my head is becuase of my OCD. Now I have EVERY barrel the they make for that weapon. All the way up to 458 L. I do have some of the older TC side locks. From 50 to my 58 Big Bore. There's something fun about shooting that monster,It's hell on a wild hog. But that Encore is the cats ass when it comes to a muzzle loader for deer.
Smith & Wesson 629 DX Classic in 6 1/2" topped with an Aimpiont. It shoots Sierra 180's into about 1" @ 50 yards at very near 1800fps. Does a very nice job.

Buick Rainer
Got a button buck on the Turnpike.

My deer guns consisted of an Ithaca 12ga M87 DS2 with a Redfield 1 3/4-5x, and a TC Renegade 50cal MZ loader. Both of these have been replaced by a TC Encore, with a 20ga slug barrel with a Nikon 2-7, and a 50cal MZ loader barrel with a Burris 2-7x. Every once in a while, I'll use a Smith 629 44mag. I absolutely love my Encore, and if they allow the pistol caliber carbine, Ill get another barrel for the Encore.

As promised, one of 2010's does:
A couple of mine
TC Omega .50cal w/Leupold 3x9
Remington 1100 w/Pentax 0x4 Scope
S&W 629 w/Leupold 2x

If I get the time off work to go TC Thunderhawk .50 Ruger Blackhawk .41mag I also have a mossburg 835 12ga. I just need to find a slug barrel for it.
A old S&W3000 with rifle shights, smoooth bore. Shoots the Rem lead slugs, within 2in at fifty yards all day. Also a 50cal flintlock Haines style that I built, with 490 balls and 3f powder for charge and prime.
Marlin 336XLR .30-30............at the family farm in WV.
What do you all prefer for a "non-modern" deer hunting weapon: black powder gun or crossbow? I've been thinking about getting one or the other to expand my hunting opportunities but I can't decide which way to go.

Depends on the day/mood/weather/hunting spot.
My options are:
Remington 870 with rifled slug barrel (most common)
Glock 10mm
Remington 700 muzzle loader
I prefer to use a compound bow(pse) but if I'm cheating I use my Thompson .50cal Hawkins traditional muzzle loader. Back in high school I was known to pack a 870 wingmaster w/ rifled barrel and a simmons scope

Personally I prefer the crossbow over everything else but I still use the shotgun and muzzleloader in their respective seasons to get a little range in my favor!
wtf lol i wanted to see the wound!
I use a Browning Citori 28 gauge White Lightning and shoot Brenneke 28 gauge slugs through it. It will knock the fire right out of the best of them. Dropped a nice big doe last year and she is eating up real good.
