i'm driving from CT out to Lima Ohio and possibly a little south of that to go see AIM or Copes for some ammo. what else should i see while i'm there?
i'm interested in anything gun related, museum's, truck/car stuff or just anything cool or unique.

i'll be driving along I-76 to I-71 then US-30 to Lima and onto I-75 if i go to AIM or Copes so i'd like it to be not too far from that path so not so much into something in Columbus as thats a little too far.

USAF Air and Space museum is a must see and it's free. You'll be just up the road from it and practically driving right by it, if you're heading to AIM (which so far as I know has special rules/times they allow street traffic in).

Check-out Fin, Feather, and Fur Outfitters in Ashland Ohio. Right off I-71 at S.R. 250. Nice big lodge-style store.
Don't forget to stop at Grandpa's Cheese Barn!!

This

(Just remember it's a military base so shop at AIM after you visit the museum.)

Also, depending on what days you are traveling, Fin, Feather & Fur is closed on Mondays.

The Rock Hall Of Fame in Cleveland Ohio if your into that kind of stuff. And if your going to be in Lima your only about a 90 min drive to the Cablea's in Dundee Mi. Straight up 75 to 475 to 23 north. Its well worth the drive if your going to be that close.

If you reload Fin Feather and fur is the place to stop their reloading department is bigger than most gun shops.

You'll be driving around a lot of stuff/big cities.

I will second Fins and Friends (Fin Feather Fur Outfitters). It is exit/mile marker 186. DO NOT SPEED THERE.

It is the BIGGEST speed trap on all of I-71 in Ohio.

When is the projected date to be here ? I am south of Lima right off 75 at Exit 74.. number of places to eat here.

Museum is maybe 30 minute from me (silly traffic), AIM is south of Dayton off 75 at exit 32.. Copes is a good bit west of 75, exit 83 and wiggle through Piqua and on through Covington, pass my in-laws place, got to stop and buy brown eggs from nephew.. and into Greenville there off 36 & 127 I think it is.

What you doing in Lima ?

dropping off a transmission and some other car parts to get built. shipping would be over $300 there and back so i figure i'll just drive out for about $180round trip in fuel (diesel Jetta 40mpg+) and while i'm there go and see some cool shit. maybe meet some even better people.

If you don't mind a bit of a detour, see racks & racks of Garands at the CMP store at Camp Perry in Port Clinton.
Heck, if you get your approval stuff set-up with them, you could take one home!!

Click on "North Store"

The hours are limited:

North store is open weekly:
Wednesday-Saturday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. EST.

South of Lima on I-75- Wapakoneta- Neil Armstrong Space Museum

North of Lima on I-75- Findlay- Jaqua's Sporting Goods- The gun store is actually one big, huge vault. But they need that because some of the shotguns are $50,000 and up.
Buffalo Trading Company- New store, huge with a wild west theme. Statues of Annie Oakley and Buffalo Bill Cody, Old time saloon bar setups, moose, elk and deer heads, full body mount buffalos... Anything from brand new .22s and used Ithaca M37s to $25,000 original Henry rifles.
TNT- Small shop with great service and decent prices. Surplus, too.

West of Findlay on 224 or north of Lima on 65- Ottawa- Ottawa Ordnance- Nice shop, great people, lots of Black Gun stuff.

Southwest of Lima, sort of on the way to Cope's, is the home of Annie Oakley. The name of the town escapes me. There is a neat museum about her and trick/exhibition shooting in... Crap, can't think of that town either. Google is your friend.

East and a little south of Lima is Urbana- At the little airport north edge of town, a group is assembling/rebuilding a B-17 (G model?). Who can't love a dozen 50 cals flying thru the air.

They build the M1 Abram in Lima,,, south side kinda off I-75 around the 121 mile stick... 75 runs west there (if you driving south), then makes left bend to south... tank plant is just north there at the bend.. I seen an M1 Abram sitting on a side street a couple yr ago in the farm community of Kalida during their Pioneer Days Festival...

Ottawa Ordnance is a small place,, maybe 6 people is a crowd, unless they open a wee bit more since this past June... Armstrong is right there at 111 exit, see dome before exit.

You still have not given projected date of visit.... need to know how to plan for up coming event

I assume you're traveling I-70 to I-75. Columbus is a big city with plenty to do depending on your interests. There's even a small herd of buffalo just outside the city. COSI is a pretty neat museum as well. Definitely hit WPAFB for the USAF museum. If you like art museums, the Dayton Art Institute has a surprising collection. (Not surprising if you know the city's history.) There's also a good bit of Wright Brothers history in and around Dayton if you're into that sort of thing. If you have the time, Jungle Jim's in Fairfield, Ohio (just North of Cinci) is a must see grocery store and be sure to use the bathroom if you go. (Yes, I said grocery store and bathrooms. Really, it's quite the place with a "museum of food" quality to it.)

OK it sounds like you may be coming south on I- 75 from Lima. Aim surplus is a haul (100 miles) from Lima and quite frankly unless your picking up an order I wouldn't do it ..not a typical retail establishment. Now you can shoot down 75 south to I-70 and stop in Vandalia Ohio and there are three gun shops right off of 75 and within about 10 minutes of each other...if you decide to go to Copes you will have to get off the Interstate and head west towards Greenville.....

Vandalia Armory

Olde English Outfitters

Vandalia Tactical

After visiting the shops in Dayton you can head over to the Air Force Museum its a very short drive.....when done you can head from there to Columbus and stop at Vances

vance outdoors

70 eastbound should put you back on track for east coast also....

Chuck AIM does sell Ammo and Accessories for pick up if on Wednesdays or Fridays during specific times. Orders for ammo or accesories can be called in 15 minutes to 6 days before you pick them up. Firearms on the other hand are on Thursdays only and an appointment has to be made. I was there this last Wednesday to pick up some stuff. There is a bunch more info on it on there site at AIM pick up orders
Hope this helps.
