Will be visiting Columbus next month for a hockey game - stuff to do?
Hey OHHTF
I think I will be in town next month and attending a Bluejackets game. Probably flying in the morning of the game and checking into a hotel near the arena around noon. Any good advice on things to do around the stadium area... anything neat to see or any bars worth checking out?
thanks for the advice.

I cannot stand the Blue Jackets, but they have one of the nicest arenas in the league. I would go to the R Bar(just in front of the arena), but I'm sure some others can suggest better places to go. It is safe in that area to wander off while drunk... just don't wander too far east.
If you like Italian there's Buca Di Bepo's steps from the arena.
well, I'm going to support the Stars, and then, coincidentally going to Buffalo the next night to watch them destroy your Sabres

going on a little road trip with the team.
I have heard the area around the arena in Columbus is nice. My buddy going with me is from Buffalo, so we got that part of the trip figured out, I think.

In the North Market there is some great food. It is a building where there are a lot of small booths with food and drinks throughout.
i can't remember if frog, bear, wild whores bar is still open or not, when i was single it was free pussy night on weekends

I scouted out that R Bar - that place looks cool. is there anything worth checking out that could be done in a few hours before the game, like a cool museum or anything?
Welcome to the City and I hope you enjoy your stay.
COSI is in walking distance of the Arena if your healthy enough and the weather plays nice.
Experience Columbus could help in finding the things you would like to do.
I'm too drunk to look at the schedule right now.
What days will you be here and could you be here on the 14th of Jan, given the freedom to do so.

Will be there 2/8 - probably can't make it for the 14th this month, unfortunately.

Sabres are blowing it so far.
Have fun!
Just make sure you go there MORE than an hour or so cause its a wait if you show up an hour or less before game time, Ted's is better good too
The Garage Bar is a good place for a Pre-game drink, and the food is good too. It doesn't get as crowded as the R Bar. There is a new Irish Pub that just opened up by the arena, the Three Legged Mare, it is not too bad.
If you don't already have tickets, it is not too difficult to get lower bowl tickets for less than $20 each. I have only had to pay for tickets once this season, and that was for the New Years Eve game, and those were just $10 each. I have actually seen scalpers giving tickets away a few times this season.
Get out on High Street and walk north from the Arena. Lot's of bars and restaurants in the Short North area. Be forewarned it is the artsy, gay friendly part of town, but there's plenty of good looking women and good food.

+1 Barleys has great craft brew if you like good beer. its on high about 2 blocks north of nationwide
My advice is leave the Arena District after the game and head for Grandview, just a shot hop and a skip.
