 CCW Question in my car.

I just wanted to double check if it's legal to drive around with my handgun either in the glovebox, center console or trunk instead of on my persons?

Does it have to be holstered or can if be free? And when I leave the vehicle I assume I can leave the handgun in the car too?

Sorry for the dumb questions.

The only thing about the free in the car is if there are NO children (Under 18) in the vechicle.

Taken from the AG's web site.

WARNING:

As of Sept. 30, 2011, concealed handgun licensees are no longer required to carry handguns in any particular manner in a motor vehicle. However, you should carry it safely and securely. The handgun should be carried so it is not accessible to unauthorized persons

So what there saying is. If there is a minnor in the vechicle,You better keep it close, or on your person.

The only dumb question is the one that wasn't asked.

Members of my shooting facility have started hiring an attorney once a year. We all kick in like 30$ and he goes over CCW legislation and has a pretty lengthy Q&A period. Worth every penny.

He's also a member, so he's cheap.

Food for thought.

that is interesting, i know the laws are constantly changing - it's better to be safe than sorry, plus I don't feel like being a test case for some bored DA that's anti 2A

That's strictly advice, not law or a requirement.

It does NOT say this: However, you should must carry it safely and securely. The handgun should must be carried so it is not accessible to unauthorized persons

Hey Chuck. Something tells me that since they posted on the AG's web site ( Where I cut and copied from it) It may be more advise.

As it was explained to me by a Summit Co. Detective. And has done CCW training since day 1 here in Ohio. The Ag's office doesn't give advice. That's what YOU pay a lawyer for. The Ag's office is in the business to prosecute you for not knowing the Ohio laws.

So lets put it this way, Since I have a small child. I'm not pushing the envelope. And have been advised about this pit fall in the CCW law.
