 Question about your laws...

I will be driving to the San Diego area with my parents for Christmas, from Colorado. We will be there for 2-3 days visiting my grandmother and aunt. I have my CCW and know the laws for my state, Utah, and Nevada. I realize I will not be able to carry in Cali, but I am trying to decide whether or not it is even worth bringing a gun for the majority of the drive. Also, my mom doesn't want to drive straight through, so we will be staying in a hotel in UT. If I did bring one, what do I have to do to secure it in the vehicle, etc? Thanks guys.

Lock it, unloaded, in a case. NOT the glove box or center console. Unloaded is no ammo in the cylinder/ no loaded magazine in the weapon. Loaded mags can be stored with the handgun in the case.
Also No magazines over 10 round capacity either.

Definately bring your gun. You break down in middle of nowhere area, you'll be glad you have it.

That's my thought process. I'm not too paranoid, but I'd like to be prepared. Luckily I've got a 40 from 03 or close to, and have a couple of 10 rnd mags for it.

Another thing, are there any laws about knives? I've got a survival knife strapped to my backpack.

Cali has pretty loose Knife Laws, pretty much you can Open Carry longer then 2.5in. Pocket knife length varies by country

The middle of no where?

It's not in the middle of no where that I worry about!

I should clarify my idea as the middle of nowhere as somewhere like Barstow or Baker...

Yes, but I think I'd rather tame my chances in Barstow.
