Winter Haven home invader shot DRT
A Winter Haven man justifiably shot and killed an enraged intruder this morning, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.
Judd, who addressed the media Sunday morning, said William Cornwell,
33, was protecting his family when he shot a man who stormed into his
home on the 400 block of Lake Daisy Drive about 4 a.m.
The suspect, whom investigators said initially approached the house
next door, was identified Sunday evening as Christopher Brian Deese, 40,
of Lakeland.
"If there’s ever been a justified shooting, this is it," Judd said.
"This is a classic 'Castle Doctrine' case. William Cornwell had every
right to protect himself, his wife and his children from this
irrational, out of control man who broke into their home. The mistake
the suspect made by breaking into that home was a fatal one."

I love Grady Judd
I also love stories with a happy ending.
Two seperate times this guy has to shoot somebody?? And people wonder why we sleep with loaded guns close by....
Homeowner is lucky things went his way after he fucked up.
1. Opened the door allowing intruder to get in.
2. Had an ND into the floor.
3. Had enough time to regain control of situation and shoot the intruder in close quarters.
4. Lives in a county with a pro gun Sheriff.
I hope this guy gets some training, and common sense.
What's up with opening the door?
Is that what he did with his previous shooting, and it worked out?
I don't get it.
ETA: Took me a minute to find it. He actually chased the last guy. In his previous shooting, the guy was already in the house, and swung a crowbar at him. He shot the guy twice, then shot at his truck as he fled.

Yep. Stop them at the breach point.
Good shoot, but very clumsy.
...but if he'd only stayed in his house and not opened the door, the guy wouldn't have skittled his way in and got shot.
Awaiting the national outrage....
still waiting...
Oh, sorry - I thought he might have been wearing a hoodie, my bad.

Do you live in Florida?
Cornwell said he retreated and, while fumbling with his gun, accidentally fired a shot into the ground. Investigators say the man stopped briefly, took off his shirt, and yelled, "You wanna fight?"

He stopped the threat.

Your sarcasm detector needs some calibration.
Grady Judd is simply amazing!
Stories like this make me glad to live in Polk County. Judd won't make a big deal out of a good shooting, treats it as a done deal.
Just talked to my grandson tonight who works at WH Hospital and happens to know this security guard. Apparently the dead guy was out on a boat all day drinking, and since he also has a history of substance abuse, god knows what else he was doing but the general belief is cocaine.
He had gone to a house where my grandson happened to be visiting where there was apparently a gathering of friends. It sounded like he was a friend of a friend and tagged along. He got unpleasant at the party and they asked him to leave so he asked someone to drop him off at his girlfriend's house. So somebody gave him a ride and dropped him off in front of his "girlfriend's house" and left.
My grandson had stayed over at the party house and the next morning when he woke up one of his friends said "Hey you remember that Chris guy from last night that was making trouble. Well, he's dead." He said he was kind of shocked but the guy apparently had a history and now he is history.
My GS said he also was puzzled why the resident actually opened the door, thought it was a dumb move, should have called 911 and kept the door closed. Hindsight is 20/20.
My GS did tell me he is stocking up on ammo with the zombie eating shit going on. That's my boy.
Anyway just a little bit of news from Polk "that's all the ammo we had" County.
