Looks like you guys had a great time in spite of the flats.

I can't even imagine what it took to lay these bricks like this.
We have a few streets in my town made of bricks like that. Must have been popular back in the day
My grandpa and me spent a lot of time there - I'll always love that place.
One of the Armstrong 6" rapid-fire guns that stood atop the batteries before they were removed in 1979 or '80.

Very cool that you got to Spend time like that with your Grandpa. Look how close that
battery was to the coast. Now it is at least 75 yards from the beach. I noticed the
beach has been eroded badly compared to the last time I was there.
I haven't been out there in a few years. I need to go.

Thanks, Yes it is only boat accessible. It is hot out there and no fresh water. I imagine
it was pure hell building the structures and infrastructures they did in the 1800's out there.
Most of the buildings are long gone. But they had a movie theater and I think a bowling alley for
the troops stationed there long ago.
You need to go to Fort Desoto and Egmont Key to see some Tampa Bay history.

I can agree with that. I spent quite a bit of time there when I was growing up.
Dan
There is a company or two that runs people out there on big pontoon boats
from mullet key. The camping is nice at Fort Desoto except no campfires and
the racoons can be a pain in the ass.
