I never heard of putting salami on a Cuban sandwich but what do I know?

Either way, Cuban sammiches ROCK!

I didn't know any one made them without salami. I try to stay out of Miami.

Tampa for the WIN!
Try a Bracatos on 56th street!
Salami, mustard & mayo is mixed and no lettuce or tomato pressed without garlic butter till the cheese melts, to be a real "cuban"!

I grew up in Miami, but always had salami in my Cuban sandwiches, and that's how I make them now.

Broccato's is definitely good. I also think that Carmine's in Ybor does a decent job with their Cuban sandwich as well- had one there yesterday!

Original cuban sandwich does not have salami, i am cuban born and raised, definitely a variation which perhaps might be good but not original cuban. Anyways if in Miami Sarussi is the best cuban sandwich so far!!

D&D delights on 20th St, south of Ybor in Palmetto Beach

It is a true locals place, ca$h only.

I used to go to Ruben's Cubans, on Busch, in Temple Terrace. This was back in the early to mid 90's, and I read that they're still making great Cubans.

With salami, of course.

I know I may get some shit for this.... but I've had (though not for quite a while) some really good pressed cubans from Publix!

...and I've had them from many places around the Tampa area!

If you are in town for Brocotos, skip it!

I live here. I can set you up with way better places.

The little sketchy connivence store in the middle of no where is the best. Try East Lake food market.

If you need more exact PM me. I swear by this place and have eaten at 90% of the Cuban sandwich places in Tampa.

I have lived in Miami my entire life and have never heard of salami in a cuban sandwich. A "croqueta" yes, salami no.

Another thumbs up for Sarussi and lets not forget Sergio's.

The old original "Silver Ring" in Ybor was the king at one time, but its long gone. To me a real Cuban needs a certain amount of Mojo cooked pork, nuff said.

No salami on a Cuban, please.

Cuban and Italian immigrants that worked together in the Ybor City cigar factorys in the 1800's would disagree. Real tampa cuban bread, ham seared with hot steel, roasted mojo pork, salami, swiss cheese, mustard and three dill pickle slices. Not pressed either and no mayo, lettuce, or tomatoes .

BTW, Even Miami restaurants buy Tampa cuban bread because it's better ...

Watch and learn:

West Coast for the WIN!

There's a place in Treasure Island that makes an awesome sandwich. Can't think of the name but they've won "Best Cuban in Tampa Bay area" a couple times.

La Familia in Gainesville makes a great Tampa Cuban. They drive down to Ybor City daily to pick up their bread.

My go-to right now is Castillo's on Armenia just north of I-275.

Great Cuban, and they do the best roast pork.

Growing up in Miami, Latin American had the best Cuban sandwich. The "original" Latin American on 57th & 8th Street is still good but if you want the best in Miami today, you have to hit up Havana Harry's. Also, Sarussi is always great. I had a chance to try and finish the Man vs Food version. Failed that one. Bring a friend or 2 for that one.

+1
Ayestaran Restaurant on 8th street and 27th Ave ( you kow the heart of little HAVANA). The gentlemen at the glass counter must be at least 80 years old easy. His knife is Samurai sword quality and he only wears a white pressed long sleeve shirt and tie. No apron, no hurry and nothing hangs off the perfectly trimmed and pressed sandwich. Mayo? Salami? Are you F'ing kidding me? what's next Splenda in a café con leche?
