I don't see this as a big deal. He was found to be guilty of a felony and was getting rid of a pistol..... Exactly what he should have done. It is not like he was trying to uy one, and it was not like he was carrying one.... He was GETTING RID of one.
Put this into another light.... Your buddy gets busted for some non-violent felony and since he can no longer own a pistol he tries to sell it to a pawn shop.... And he gets arrested for trying to GET RID of a gun. I'd bet you would not be happy about that and would be bitching about the ATF and entrapment. I think that is the case here as well.

Normally in cases like that you will get some leeway.
That leeway gets thrown out the window when you go on CNN and offfer rewards for people to kidnap someone and then make vague threats of violence. If this guy had just been some poor schmuck that lost his rights and he pawned his gun no one would have cared. Since he decided to go on tv and run his mouth, he is now dealing with an annoyed probation officer that got called into the boss' office to ask why his client was on TV.

Fact is he was just trying to GET RID of a pistol. If your buddy had been in the same situation, you would be upset that they were hunting him for some other reason.
The other poster nailed it... It is only because he was on youtube acting like an ass that this is any issue at all. Normally, they would be asked, "Why did you sell a gun?" He would reply, "Because I can't legally own it anymore and was not going to throw it away." That would have normally been the end of it, and even if this guy is a dipshit, it still should be the end of it.
If you would not stand to have your friends treated like this... then you should not be happy when it happens to someone else.
