I have looked all over for a good gunsmith here in South East Florida. Although I can find quite a few in the yellow pages...I was hoping to get some recommendations from you folks. I want to have some trigger work done on a Ruger SP101. Any thoughts?

Phil typically does gunsmithing on AR15s. Not sure if he knows the SP101, worth a shot anyways!

Thanks a TON! I just went in to Guntech. Phil is on point. He has had great results doing the exact work I was looking for. Thanks for the advice. I will report back when I pick up the pistol.

Yesterday was my first time to Guntech. Friendly staff..(Chris)..and gunsmith on site (Phil)...Thanks to Irag2362 for that info. They had a nice selection of stuff at the best prices I have seen in South Florida. I have been to nearly every gun store in Broward and Dade County. I can't believe I had not checked them out before yesterday. They offer discounts to LEO and even pilots. I over heard the guy next to me get a quote of $389.00 for a new glock. Pilot discount. If you can do better than $389.00 for that gun anywhere else in Broward county I would love to know where! :) I was not there to buy....I was there for the gunsmith...but I will be putting them at the top of my list for future purchases. I like to support local business when I can. I think we all should be supporting the mom and pop establishments when at all possible. But when it comes to gun buying in South Florida that can be extremely hard to justify. Especially when Buds is just a click away.

So here is my 2 cents on the gun stores I have dealt with down here:

Weston Arms - Service is hit or miss...mostly miss. The new facility is nice. The indoor range is very nice...well ventilated...good AC. Prices are WAY too high. They will not quote over the phone. They will NOT return your call under any circumstance. You could be Jesus Christ...sorry...not gonna call you back. Enough said. Still....I do shoot there...It's close by. $15.00 to use the range.

National - Prices were better (not good) if LEO...but if you are not LEO (me) they treated me with total indifference. Whatever...I say pass. Mostly fail.

Gun Country - Mostly a gun show outfit but they do have a storefront open a couple days a week. Prices were OK-ish on some stuff...high on other stuff. I did get a good price on a Walther P22. I say check them out...you may get close on a gun with them.

Lou's Police Supply - I would say for South Florida...not too bad on price. Very nice staff. LEO discount if that helps you.

Arizona - Suck on all counts....rude....range blows....price was laughable

Only The Best - I have mixed feelings...selection was very good...Price was very high but they will deal. I made my first NFA purchase with them and paid more than I needed to but they have so much stock it was worth the trip. I would not make a title 1 purchase from them.

Pompano Pawn - Negative....pass

Tropical Firearms - Good selection...good service...25.00 transfers...price is high but they will deal if paying cash.

Bass Pro - love the store....hate the price....shooting range is just OK....you can't keep your brass there...so I won't shoot there.

Let's face it....with the exception of my experience yesterday at Guntech over hearing that quote on the glock....NONE of these places will compete with Budsgunshop. They just can't and stay in business. I get that. What I will never understand is bad customer service and down right rudeness. Which is painfully the rule and not the exception in South Florida. I think i am a pretty big buyer for being a regular guy. 4 to 5 guns a year. I am a supporter of local business so I will pay a little more to do that (within reason). So customer service is EVERYTHING to me. If you fail on that...I won't be back.

Thanks for your thoughts on the local shops, I have been to a few of them and have roughly the same feelings as you do, Although I really did like the guys at national as that is where I took my ccw class that my wife paid for for Valentines day a few years back as a present and they have ALWAYS treated me very fair...Sadly I just havent been to there new store so I dont know how they are now but when I was near them I would stop in once a week and BS with them just to kill time

As far as weston arms go I just really think they are ALL assholes in there with shitty inventory and even shittier customer service which is suprising for such a small shop that cant afford to LOSE any business

Arizona is a JOKE at best and that is treading lightly about them...They have a huge selection of guns but that is IT, they WONT deal with you if they dont want to and when trying to sell them a firearm its PATHETIC, I was trying to sell a used but MINT condition beretta model 1934 in the original chrome/high polish finish that fired like a dream, was a great/safe pocket gun and didnt have a SINGLE pit mark in the factory finish which is suprising considering its age "my Grandfather brought it back from fighting in WWII" Arizona looked at it and said oh ill give you 40 dollars for this old piece of shit...I almost lost it and wanted to beat the owner with the fucking gun LOL, so I took it over to Tropical since they have always been friendly and they gave me 260 for it which I thought was fair

I will have to check out Guntech on my next day off and see what they are all about

Boresight Solutions
I just had Ben @ Boresight Solutions put new sights on a 1911 slide and the work looks well done.
I'm going to Markham tomorrow to test fire.
Ben is friendly, approachable and an all round decent guy; my understanding is they do mostly pistol and revolver work.
