CAUTION: I HAVE GOOD REASON TO BELIEVE THESE ARE FAKE TROYS! BUYER BEWARE!

Real Troy

#1 Note the smaller writing, the text does not span to the edges like the ones listed above.
#2 You can't tell in the photos this guy is selling, but I believe the screw to be recessed (another way to tell). Genuine Troys are flush.
#3 Notice the threading on the screw. On the genuine Troys the threading is only on the last 1/4 or 1/3rd of the bolt. On the ones this guy is selling the threading spans the entire screw.

ETA: Seller has since removed all photos of his sights and refuses to send photos to prove otherwise (I asked for a picture of the screw head). While these could potentially be real I find the lack of cooperation by the seller to be troubling.

I bought and paid for a real set, not fakes; false advertisement. I would hate to go through the whole process of returning it, getting a refund, and reimbursement for return shipping. But I hope they're real too..

OK so I searched the email 'scarguy' sent me to send PayPal to ( tri817@yahoo.com ) and he's got another account on AR15.com under the name silversage.

His profile is viewable here: http://www.ar15.com/member/member.html?id=184027

Its pretty obvious this guy knew they were fakes and created a new account in hopes of scamming some people because he didn't want to tarnish his 'real' account and his +6 feedback. His main account is active, with 200 posts, and he's been around since 2008. He's logged in today with it so its obvious its active.

Can moderators move this to Feedback so we can deal with this scumbag?

Here is what I need from buyers-

1. What you bought.

2. How you paid.

3. If you got them.

If you have them and you are suspect of their validity, then post pics of them. Clear pics of them.

Mods, some of the details you asked for: I bought a set of TROYs from scarguy and paid through Paypal on 2/22/12. He didn't ship them yet so I don't know if they are fake or not. However, I did ask him to refund my money, and he did it today. Paypal is putting the money on hold, but I should get it.

Since there isn't any content left in the OP, was this the listing for one set of regular and one set of micro Troys for ~$125/set or so?

Its great that he's refunding peoples money but the buck should not stop there.

The fact is unless I raised a huge stink about it (and had him call me an asshole many times) he would have happily ripped off members of this forum with a smile on his face.

Here's what I know.

1) I offered to buy them because the price was great. I sent him an IM saying I'll take it. After sending the IM I took another look at the listing and immediately noticed the images looked off. By now he had replied with his PayPal address saying they were to be sold to me. I replied asking him for additional photos which he was happy to provide until I told him it was because I thought they were fakes. After that he called me an asshole and refused to send me any photos. I don't know about you guys but if someone questioned the authenticity of a product I sold I would do my best to prove they were in fact authentic.

2) After I accused him of selling fake goods (and I explained via IM why I thought they were fake) he promptly edited his post and removed the pictures.

3) After people started asking questions (I IMed the people that posted in his thread) he edited his original posting and deleted everything.

4) He created a new account 3 days ago for what appears to be the sole purpose of listing these Troy sights he so vehemently insists are genuine. Why would he go out of his way to create a 2nd account to sell some Troy sights when he's got another account in good standing which has been around for 4 years and which already has 6 positive feedback?

Its pretty apparent to me he was up to something fishy and he's been called on it.

Thanks! That's great, makes it a lot easier!

I didn't end up sending payment as I was waiting for him to send additional photos of the sight which never arrived, however according to him he ended up selling them all (there were 3 pairs).

Looks like C_1 and Ghost-1 have received refunds which leaves one unaccounted for.

ETA: Looks like he was counting on funds from urquatto? But looks like my IM reached him before sending payment.

And also remember this-Your post about them being fakes, is considered an ad stomp.

While this time you are right, there are those that have done the same thing and were wrong.

It would be better to ere on the side of caution and contact a Mod to look at the ad.

Also, please take the time to read the EE rules. That way it keeps you outa trouble in the future.

I understand about the ad stomp thing, but if buckjay didn't bring it up, we could have been none the wiser. Scarguy insist that they are real, but didn't provide better pics, and his after actions were sketchy. Because of that, I didn't want to take the chance any more, and I asked for a refund.

Scarguy refunded the money, but its pending or on hold; I should get it though.

How do you adstomp a false ad made by a member's newly created (2nd) account? Maybe it was a technical violation, but the greater good was stopping anyone else from buying fake sights / alerting those who did buy them. Silversage/scarguy could've kept telling people they were available and raking in more money.

This is HOS stuff.

Do you know how many well meaning members, did the very same thing in an ad, only to find out they were wrong and received a 72hr timeout?

More than I can count.

If you really read what I posted, it was a freindly suggestion to contact a Mod, not to do that in an ad.

If I really was a hardass, like some of you guys like claim, I could have him locked for that. I did not. I understand what he did.

The message was correct, the delivery was flawed.

No, I read what you posted. I'm tracking on what you're saying. I think it's silly to tell someone they're adstomping on an ad that was created by silversage/scarguy to rip people off. That was clearly his intention and he was well on his way doing it.

I see it as this......I see a guy robbing a bank and run across the street to tell the cop sitting in his police car that the bank is being robbed. After everything is said and done, the cop warns me that he could ticket me for jaywalking b/c I ran across the street instead of using my phone to call.

Mods are people too, they can't and aren't always online to police this stuff. I don't know the flash to bang on the report button, but at the very least, buckjay alerted those who bought the sight prior to his questions. He's a big boy and if he would've been wrong, he would've accepted his punishment. But he wasn't wrong and I would bet money that he didn't post until he was sure.

I'm really not trying to be argumentative, so please don't take it that way. When this is all said and done, I think silversage earned himself a HOS slot by deliberately trying to rip people off.
Dog1  [Moderator]
2/24/2012 10:07:34 AM
Again, I told him that, to make sure that in the future, he does not make a mistake and end up locked.

It was a friendly warning, so that he does not get dinged.

He's ok with what I said, why can't you be?

There are Mods and Staff on here all the time. Even late. Had a report come in, someone would have dealt with it.

Do you now how we found the ad?

No one reported it for the shit storm it was, it was reported because the seller deleted the ad.

That's the point I'm trying to make. If a ad seems wonky or is spiraling out of control, then report it.

The story is/was, that scarguy is a buddy of silversage and has access to his computer and PP account.

I tried over and over to get silversage to come in here and post, but he refused.

I honestly do not believe the tale and his refusal to post in this thread confirms that.

Do not shit in ads, report them. for every ad where the ad shitter is right that there is a fake sight being sold, there are three ads where some outraged retard would post "AH YER BODY ARMOR IS STOLEN CIVILIZATIONS CANNOT OWN IT" when that's not true.

Actually the first thing I did was report it for counterfeit goods. This was before I posted the info in the thread. I posted the info after the guy refused to show me additional pics. I now know you can also IM a mod, so that'll help in the future.

Anyways, thanks for taking care of him!
