-1 for UrbancommandoX
I bought a Lasermax Guide rod laser from UrbancommandoX. He stated that the batteries that were in it were dead, but he included two sets of batteries that he said he had ordered, but they did not work with the laser(why he included them ???). Anyway I sent him a MO for $120. I get the laser, called lasermax to get the correct size batteries for the model number, then went to Walmart and bought them for $17.50. Put them in and the laser doesn't function properly. It shoots out a dim, solid beam instead of the bright pulsating beam. I call lasermax back and they said it was the laser diode going out and since the laser was over 5 years old there wasn't anything they could do.
I contacted UrbancommandoX and he said that that is how it is supposed to function. See IM's below. He told me to buy a different battery size and try it. So I did. $18 later and it does the same thing. Solid, dim, beam.
I asked for a refund minus shipping and I would include the batteries that I had bought so he could see for himself. He refused to refund money and said to go ahead and leave neg feedback.
IM's sent:
Sent out priority today should be there in 2-5 days.
Got it today and here's the issue. I called Lasermax to confirm the batteries size, and they said the ones that you had bought were correct, but to just use 3 out of the 4. I installed it and it works, but shoots out a solid beam that dim. I called laser max back, and they said that its the laser diode going out. They took the serial number down, and said it was 5 years old and out of warranty and not much they could do. I'd like to return it to you for a refund since it's not working. Please get back with me as soon as you can.
Jonathan
The new batteries I bought are the wrong size the small ones in the envelope marked dead are the correct size. I used them till they were dead. Rearranged em a bit and they died again. There is nothing wrong with the laser.
Model # LMS-1131P
Serial # 4B28554
phone # 585 272 5420.
One of the battery packs you sent was the LMS 393 pack. The guy from laser max stated that the correct battery for the laser is the LMS X393. I told him that I had the LMS 393 and asked the difference. He said the only difference was the X393 comes bundled with 3 batteries, where as the LMS 393 comes with 4. He said to take the plastic off the battery and only use three of them. I did. Feel free to call and ask them yourself. The batteries you included don't have any markings on them as far as what model they are, that's why I called lasermax to get the correct model #. They said # 393. I even bought #393 batteries from walmart and they look like the lasermax 393 battery, not the ones you provided.
Jonathan
The ones provided are what came in the lasermax when I received it in trade from jsteenson on here. It's what he was using and I used until they were going to dead there is nothing wrong with the unit and I can not give you a refund. Feel free to check with jsteenson on here.
Here's the latest. I went back to walmart and bought the exact size battery that came out of it - another $18.50. This time it cut on and worked properly for about 5 on/offs. Then it went back to being a solid beam, no strobing. It's not in correct working order, so I'm asking for a refund minus the shipping. I'll even include the batteries I bought since they are no use to me. I have a lot of + feedback and have never had issues. You can refuse, but I will leave negative feedback due to it not functioning as listed.
Btw, it does me no good to talk to jsteenson since I didn't buy it from him, I bought it from you.
If its a solid beam then its working. I don't know why it would strobe.
I sent an IM here, but didn't sace it. It basically said that even on the lasdermax website, it says that the beam is supposed to pulsate. I gave hime the link and told him to call lasermax and verify. He refused. Then he responded with....
I'm sorry I can not give you a refund on a working unit that you got for less than half of lasermaxs 298$ asking price along with 28$ worth of batteries. As you stating it turns on and is a solid beam it is not supposed to strobe it functions as it should. In fact it functions like our departments 12 new unirail greenasers no stroking just a constant beam. Your going to have to leave negative feedback. As there is no way I'm going to be able to convince lasermax my friend states away has a unit with nonexistent problems and needs it fixed or replaced.
A mod will be along shortly.
Lasermax website with product description. Note that the product is supposed to pulsate.

This is the text of his ad:
.Seems they go for $298 new so I'm asking 200$ shipped with working batteries and warranty card that is not filled out yet. If you need pics I can email em.
I think it's a bit misleading to say the warranty card isn't filled out yet if he knew it wasn't s new item covered under warranty.
OP: is this the green or red laser? Are you using the "fat" or skinny batteries? By fat I mean it's the size of two normal batteries.
Seller is wrong I own that model and it pulsates it is NOT a solid beam

Its the red. I used the batteries lasermax said the #393 and it put out the solid dim beam then bought the smaller 392 batts that the seller told me to. It worked/pulsed for about 5 on/offs then went back to solid beam. I called lasermax back and he told me the laser diode is going out. He saw it was over 5 years old do there was nothing he could do
I'll post a video of it tonight when I get off duty.
They laser does blink - that laser was included with a Glock I traded Urban for a P226. It worked fine, the batteries were just dead when I shipped it to him. The only thing I've seen that made the laser go solid was trying to use the hearing aid batteries from walmart that were the same size, instead of the LaserMax OEM batteries.
EDIT: The reason why it goes solid, is the batteries are not making firm contact with the laser...the walmart batteries seem to be a tad too thin, so when stacked they make poor contact with the contacts in the laser, resulting in an underpowered condition, resulting in a dim steady beam.

Ok thats fine, but I used Lasermax OEM batteries, the ones specified by lasermax for that model, which are the LSM 393 and they do the exact same thing. The batteries that were dead and given to me were not the correctly specified batteries that lasermax says to use with that model. I called to verify this and they said with that model and serial number to use LSM - 393
You bought a working item. That's it. I'm story your not happy with it but I am not Walmart. I don't take returns on things people by then decide they do no like. I've done many transactions with people from this board online and in person and I do not sell broken junk. I've said my piece now I am done with this.

If the unit doesn't function as it suppose to then you need to refund the buyers money and take your item back.
OP, I'd like to see that video of the unit not functioning as it should.

Sorry I didn't get the video up last night, I ended up working more OT than expected. I get off tonight at 6 so should be able to get it uploaded by 8p or so.
My take on the statement made by JSteenson(the guy Urban made a trade for the laser) is that JSteenson traded it to Urban with dead batteries. Urban then sold it with the dead batteries and never actually saw if it worked or not. He even states that he purchased two sets of batteries that he thought were for it but believed they were the wrong model. One of the packs of batteries that he bought actually was the correct battery according to the rep from lasermax.

Did the "new" batteries packaging have a born on date? I'm just wondering if they are dead also because it sounds like the unit did work at some point and the wrong or dead batteries can cause what your experiencing.

Nope, no born on date. Urban said he bought them so I'm assuming it wasn't too long ago. The packaging looks new. I'm trying to upload the video. I've never done a video so bare with me. I tried on youtube and it said it was in the wrong format-prob something to do with me having a mac. Now I'm trying photobucket. Just looks like it's going to take a while to load.
edit - so the upload isn't working tonight I'll just take a video using the webcam thats built into my computer instead of my video camera. Hopefully this works. It keeps saying its in the wrong format, but it's in the .mov format and youtube says that it supports .mov ??? I hate computers!
Go download Handbrake from
handbrake.fr. It'll convert MOV files to MP4. That should do the trick.

Sorry guys my computer apparently doesn't have a mic. I was able to upload using the webcam. I downloaded the software posted above, but coudn't figure that out either. Anyway you can see in the video the beam that's coming out of the laser. Now that I've figured how to post, let me know if there's any other shots you'd like and I'll gladly take them. Although I don't see this going anywhere but south for me.

Sure don't see any strobe there, and it looks kind of dim to me, I just wonder if those "new" batteries are toast.
I know you already spent money on batteries but I think a "fresh" set from the manufacturer is in order here, then we'll know for sure the batteries are good, then if the unit does not work it's the unit and not the batteries.

I believe he did get a fresh set from the
manufacturer. from WALMART

I just heard back from Urban and he said he bought the lasermax batts from laser max a week or two before I bought it. The two posts above are correct, I I bought batteries at Walmart bc I already had lasermax batts that came w it.
I'm assuming it wasn't working properly with Urban when he got it bc he said he had no clue that it pulsated, but he said he moved some of the batts that he had gotten from the guy that sold it to him around and it shot a solid beam.
FYI. Also the batts that jsteenson provided to Urban were the incorrect size for the laser. He gave Him the Lms 392 model which lasermax said is the wrong size. However Urban had bought a pack of those from lasermax as well and I tried them anyway. Same result. Dim solid beam. When I told lasermax that on the phone they said that the only reason it should shoot out a solid beam is bc the diode is going bad.
Does anyone else's lasermax shoot out a solid beam when the batts are going dead?
I personally have no experience with the Lasermax guide rods so I posted in the Lights and Lasers section, hopefully someone will come along with more knowledge on this than me.
I have a set of new batteries if needed I can put them in the mail so he could try them.
I know these batteries are good so if he has the same problem it will be the diode.
Just send them back when your done
Let me know
I have several lasermax's they pulsate and are not a solid beam...the batteries are most likely not the issue...mine pulsated till they died..new set and they are good to go again...Sounds like a defective unit...
I had one in a Glock years ago. It always pulsated when it started having issues it was either solid beam or just did not come on.
It only worked for about 2 years and at that point the company wouldn't do anything about it. As it got used it started to burn through batteries faster as it got older.
I personally would never buy another after that. You also have to realize that a guide rod laser sees an incredible amount of abuse in the gun. Lasers are still fairly delicate.
It looks like he sold you something he could not get to work .
Lasermax warranty on guide rods is 3 years from date of purchase by the first customer. All lasermax guide rods are designed to pulse at 10-12Hz per second. If there is enough battery juice to get the laser to fire is should pulse. Silver oxide 393 batteries have a shelf life of 10 years sounds like either the diode or circut board has a problem. Diodes normally have a life of around 10,000 hours so it is probable somthing with the circut board. The guide rod in a pistol takes very little abuse as the recoil spring does all the work the rod just tips up after the pistol fires and unlocks so the slide can travel to the rear. Lasermax has many gude rods that are continuing to work over to years with many thousands of rounds through them including my personal one. VS you should have sent yours into warrenty as according to you it was only 2 years old and could have been repaired or replaced.
Had a Lazermax on my Sig 229 and it pulsed (mine is 8 years old so they pulsated at least from that point until now). It did this until the day the batteries crapped out. I did end up replacing it though because it was always very dim IMO compared to the Crimson Trace Grips I bought and replaced the Lazermax with. At 10yds I had trouble seeing it where as the CT where bright to 50yds
So it would seem the unit is not functioning as it should be, OP have you heard anything from the seller on this?
OP sent me a message this morning that he wanted me to ship him new batteries to try.
They will be out in the mail today.
ETA: There on the way

Thank you for your assistance with this flashbag.
OP please keep us posted as to what happens.
Just got back home and the batteries from flashbang came in. Changed them out and if anything the laser is a little more dim than before. It still shoots a solid beam. Thanks for the help anyway Flashbang.

Sounds like it's time for the seller to take back the laser and refund your money, I sent him an IM.
It's always refreshing to see how the ARFCOM community helps out...now it's time to see the seller act similarly.
Well my only laser experience is with our green unirail lasermaxs at work and they just shoot a solid beam. But if everyone this guide rod one isn't supposed to I guess it is what it is. I don't even have a glock to put it in. I get paid in two weeks. Im me your address and ill send your 125$.

Not really more like ignorant. Cause I sold something I had no experience with. And I swore it worked from my experience with the way the lasers at work functioned.

Like the poster said, you made it right.
Update: Got home yesterday and had the MO in the mailbox. Shipped out the laser today via Priority mail.
Glad this was settled. Mods feel free to lock thread/close it or whatever you need to do.
