Looking at getting back into the HK style weapons. I have an original HK 91 on it's way. However didn't know off hand if a SAR 8 overstamp rifle is legal with original furniture and no US parts.

Thanks,

Need US parts. They were caught in customs and had the thumbhole added, as well as a fake flashhider pinned.

Have owned 2, nice rifles.

SAR-3 Stamped rifle is Pre-ban. I believe the aluminum receiver is post ban.

Could you lose the ugly thumbhole stock and add another US part to be compliant?

You really ought to ask an authority. I've heard of people putting 3/8 overstamps back into pre-ban configuration after the original ban expired. The thumbhole stocks are pretty ugly. 3/8's I've seen also have the thread protector than can be removed and replaced with a true FH.

Two different bans,

There is the importation change in regulations (18 USC 925(d)(3)) that went into effect between the SAR-3, and the over stamped Sar-8, and then the USA assault rifle ban (Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994) that expired.

So, although the USA assault rifle ban has expired, the importation change in rules have not, so the gun has to have enough USA parts in it to change it's manufactured status from import, to USA made instead (to get the gun down to max amount ofimport parts that are allowed, and still be considered a USA manufactured build)
