 SA58 or SCAR 17S

For a long time now I've wanted a .308 battle rifle. I've done a lot of research and I've narrowed it down between the two in the title. I held a PTR-91. Nice rifle, but too big for my taste. I'm looking at something in the 13-16 inch barrel range. I saw the SA58 OSW and fell in love, the rail set up with the folding stock just looks sick. The 16.5" looks awesome too. Heard nothing but good things about the FAL design and DSA's products. But I've heard great things about the SCAR 17. Both are FN products, and I'm wondering if the nearly extra grand in base price is justified with the SCAR? Ideally my rifle will be set up with either an EoTech or Trijicon ACOG, with the idea of engagement ranges 500 yards or less. The optics I'm looking at will set me back another 1000, overall I'm looking at probably over 4000 for the SCAR to be set up how I'd like, and around 3k for the FAL.

I also wanted to note, I'll be moving to Texas after I get out of the service in a couple months.

Personally I think the FAL is prettier, but there is no denying the SCAR is a nice rifle. Mostly AR controls with the charging handle back where it ought to be...I would consider one if they weren't so psycho expensive. Remember mags aren't easy/cheap for the SCAR either.

My Buddy has the SCAR 17 and I am amazed at how it handles so much like an M4 with a rail forearm but has .308. Seams lighter and faster than any other 7.62 battle rifle I've ever picked up. Switches and everything are great. Safety flicks on and off much easier than Sig 556 SWAT and feels lighter and faster by a significant margin.

That's really what I want. If I want a precision long range rifle, I'll pick up a Savage 110 BA in Lapua or a .338 Norma Mag in bolt action, I want a fast, handleable, accurate weapon that has some real power unlike 5.56.

I love FALs (I have 4) and also bought a SCAR-17 since I like FN so much.

If I had to pick just one though, it would be the SCAR-17. Light, accurate, low recoil, easy to scope. I could go on and on...

They are FAL mags with a hole in the side. I'm considering one and I'll just mod all of my mags to fit it. I like the fact that the muzzle is threaded to take my Sandstorm.
