If it had been accepted by the US Army, what designation would the T48 have had? M16?

I would think it would have been the M14, as the t44? or something was the M14 before it was selected.

Yeah, it would have been type classified as M14.

I have jokingly referred to my FAL as either a M14A or a M14.5 based on this theory. The M14A really gets the highpower guys panties in a bunch though.

Old highpower guy: What caliber Rifle?
Me: .308, of course
Old highpower guy: Ok, a M1A [starts to write]
Me: no a M14A
Old highpower guy: <chuckles> Son, there aint no such thing, you have a M1A, let me show you...
Me: Ok, you are right, that's not the official designation, it's actually a FN FAL
Old highpower guy: <much consternation about it being "allowed">
Me: Profit and a 448-10X with a lowly, inaccurate, unsuitable, 4+MOA FAL and Cheap, inaccurate "surplus" ammo....

I have a very good shooting Rhodesian build, and I have issued the "Rhodie Challenge" before to local guys, FAL's at the 2,3 and 600 HP NM course. No one wants to do it...

Our club had an odd service rifle match once upon a time. Any service rifle, as long as it was really representative of some army's rifle could be entered. I never shot in it with an FAL.

It's too bad I didn't. The FAL I built on an old CAI sporter using an L1A1 kit shot 1 good solid one inch group at 100 yards with my 168 Sierra standard match load. I didn't think anything of it at the time as it wasn't as good as my M1A, but apparently that's a really good shooting FAL. I think the kit had a Parker Hale barrel. What did I know, I sold the rifle. I wish I still had it now...

448?!?

That's impressive, best I ever pulled was a 429 IIRC, and I thought I was getting it done.

Was this ATC or reduced 100yard? Mine was reduced 100 yard.

No one? You mean none of the regular highpower crowd.

Where do I sign?

Mine will only do 3 minutes, so since I know you are a fine shot, if yours is better than that it might be a pre-ordained finish. But I will still come play!

Man I tried to get Shlomo and a few others to do it. My Rhodie is only a 3-4 minute rifle. Not going to use the STG, its a solid 2 min rifle. I say we do it one weekend. We need 4 to make it happen. 2 in the pits 2 on the line, gentelman's rules. 50 shot NM course. M80 or equivelent. Should run quick, and we could even throw in a traditional HP Practice to make it an even better day.

Would be good to see how accurate the sights are on the range scale. End of the day it would be alot of fun though. I am all in. Its going to have to be after January or so when my fusion heals up enough to walk around.
