With mags being so hard to find now , is buyinf a Fal realy worth it. I see used mags everywhere but i would not trust my life to a used and abused mag from who knows where. Have any one seen new mags for sale?
If you can't trust your life to surplus mags, don't buy a FAL. The worst surplus mags work 110% better than any commercial reproductions.
But even the surplus units are now hard to come by at a decent price.
You're 10 years too late for the good FAL love.
Go to FALfiles and look up the "Moses mag". He is developing a poly mag that is pretty awesome. It is going to be $23.99 each and his first run is going to be 1000 mags I think.
The days of cheap surplus mags are over. But the magazines are still out there.
Hereare Israeli metric mags, and
here are some more surplus metric mags. $20 apiece is pretty common these days.
Now, while $3 Austrian mags are a thing of the past, prices ain't that bad. If you were around during the AWB, you were paying $50 for a USGI M-14 magazine. $80 for a Glock 17 mag.
As for the FAL, mine is perfectly reliable.
i bought shit pile when they were cheap. some of them were in paper wrappers. i have bought one commercial mag from dsa and i works great, i have never had any problems with it.
If you think the mag is the expensive part of owning a FAL, wait till you have to buy ammo.
There are plenty of NIW mags out there but as per the earlier posts you are going to have to pay. As long as it fits and functions, I would take a surplus make over new production anyday - no question.
Got about 50 Imbels NIW out in a foot locker..I think I'm "good" since I only have 1 FAL :D
