 M1A Elevation clarification.

Sorry if this has been beat to death, but I'm looking for clarification regarding the markings on my new Sp M1A.

I take it the markings on the new M1As elevation knob represent yardage and not meters. I don't see an "M" on the knob is this correct? I was reading the posts regarding Battle Zero and it states to establish it at 25 meters using the appropriate target.

"Once the rifle is zeroed reposition the rear sight range knob without moving the sights so the 250 meter line between the numbers 2 and 4 on the elevation knob) is opposite the
index line on the receiver."

Does the line referred above on mine represent 250 M or 300 yds. Common sense tells me 300 yds since the tick is between 2 and 4.

Any help or advice would be great.

The M14 rear sight is calibrated to Meters. ( It's a NATO thing)

Are the commercial M1As set to meters as I don't see an M on the elevation knob and the Barrel lists it as a .308? Fro what I understood the old M14 sight where set to meters for the Nato thing.

Teh M14 knob has an M on it. The M1 knob does not. Otherwise, they're essentially the same knob (i.e. within one click of eachother until you get past 8 or 9). If you put either one on an M1, the numbers work closer to yards. If you put either on an M14, it works closer to meters. The reason is that the sight radius on the M14 is a little shorter.

The M14 clones are also calibrated in meters...

Remember... many USGI parts were used in the assembly of these rifles. (everything exept the receiver)

I have a older SAI standard that is mostly USGI parts.

What does the tick mark between the 2-4 on the elevation represent. the M14 target (25 meter) says that mark represents 250 meters. To me it seems more like 300 yards. Am I over thinking this.

What is the highest number marked on the elevation knob on your rifle, 11 or 12?

Hmmm, no letter M but it has 11 instead of 12 on the elevation knob? Well, that will make it easy to identify as a commercial manufacture part.

So without the "M" and not being a mil part does that mean it is in yards and that the tick mark between 2-4 means 300 yards? While the mil M-14 is set for meters?
