Scope Mount for a SA M1A Super Match
I've been cruising the sites for a scope mount for my new Super Match.
The reviews I've seen really hate the SA mounts. Before I spend $250 on a scope mount, I would appreciate some recommendations.
For a Super Match:
1. Aluminum or Steel? (I am not worried about weight, so I was thinking steel.)
2. Thoughts on the SA mounts.
3. Product recommendations for a top quality mount that will hold tight and hold zero.
Thanks,
Don
If weight is not an issue go steel.
I just picked up a steel Sadlak mount for my Norinco M14. I couldn't be happier with it. Paid about $220 from Brownells.
Sadlak is good stuff, I have one of each, an aluminum, steel, and a titanium on my supermatch. I've never had a problem with any of them.
Smith Enterprises. Call them up and let them know you are putting it on a Springfield.
I have a Springfield Armory Scout with a forward rail.
I want to run a scope while still being able to utilize the iron sights. I like the ARMS mount #18 but it looks like it obstructs the iron sights. If the iron sights clear the gap between the rail, I guess I still need to find scope rings with a valley in them as well.

I'm curious how the mount fit on your receiver? I just used a caliper to measure the groove in my SA receiver and it's not within USGI specs, which is pretty common for SA as I read. They are sending me their inspection kit now to test how out of whack it is, but I'm guessing I'm going to have to pay them the extra to machine it to my groove.

You can use iron sights with the ARMS #18 installed no problem.
The ARMS #18 sits lower than any other M14/M1A scope base made (except maybe the Bassett).

Calipers give false readings & is not the proper way to check the scope mount groove.
SAI receivers in the 140,000-160-000 range were prevalent for bad mounting grooves.
The higher serial numbers having problems are spotty, even tho they can have an issue on a few.

No I do not have any affiliation with this company, but after using the SA gen 3, SA gen 4, Smith Enterprises, ARMS 18, Promag ARMS 18 clone mounts, I purchased this one and it is now installed and is the best thing I have ever seen to mount a scope to an M1A. The idea of it is so smart, not sure why anyone else has come up with it. All the mounts I mentioned before either wouldnt hold zero(with loctite blue thread locker installed), and one didnt even mount square to my receiver. This has held zero without any issues, installs easily and takes maybe 5 minutes at the most, I HIGHLY reccomend anyone on this site to try this mount, you wont be dissapointed
The Bassett gets great reviews.

I have the Sadlac, five years of great service. I bought the fitting fixture and have installed four other Sadlac mounts, found one receiver that was not in spec, easy fix.
I have the Sadlack Steel Airborne model... very nice piece.

There is a place for everything. IMHO, the CASM would be good for a Standard or Scout. I am not sure I would want to sacrafice Super Match rear sights for that.
I am still waiting for a Sadlak. Everyone seems to be out of stock. I might have to suckerdown and pay the extra $20 to get one from the manufacturer.

Well I just got the inspection kit from Sadlak, and used the 1-2" Micrometer, and verified that my groove is not within USGI spec, and my serial # starts with 286XXX, purchased in April of this year. I know the calipers are not 100% accurate but I took the readings multiple times and each time it was within ± .002, and I was still outside USGI specs.
Sorry for being late, I put the 3 mounts on 3 modern SAI recievers, never even checked the groove. I have not had any problems with any of them. I just check the torque on the bolts occasionally. Here's 2 of them.
