Help, What have I done?
I have an Springfield Armory M1 Garand. In great condition, runs great, etc.
I was zeroing it, I got it zeroed, loosened the elevation screw to slip the knob.
And now no matter where i hold it, it wont hit the broad side of a barn. I have it on the lowest elevation setting.
Can hold at the bottom of the berm, and at 300 yds. it will dam near go over the berm.
I know i am a bone head.
Can someone tell me how to fix this?
I am new to Garands obviously.
Let someone else shoot it and see if it does the same thing.

1) After zeroing, count the number of clicks to turn the aperture to the lowest point of its travel (and record that number).
2) Why would you want to slip the knob? Do you have a butt-load of WWII M2 Ball ammo? That's what those graduations are for.
3) The "lowest elevation setting" is with the aperture at the lowest point in the sight base. Or, are you confusing those historical number settings on the knob?
Tighten the screw in the center of the elevation knob. Rezero your rear sight. Record the number of clicks of elevation needed to hit your target at a specific distance. Then, move the windage knob to align your bullet impact with your target. Record how many clicks (left or right) it takes to center your shot (or move your front sight 0.007"/click).

Forget about the markings on the knob, bottom the aperture and count up about 8 clicks and get it zeroed at 100yds, add 2 clicks for 200 etc.
Thanks to all. I will try this and see what happens.
I guess i was thinking at it like a scope knob. After I zeroed it, it wasnt quite on the range marking i was shooting at.
I thought i would line up the number without moving the sight that way.
Yes i have a bunch of greek ammo from cmp.
Historical numbers makes me think maybe i was looking at the wrong thing. Brain malfunction that day i guess?
Thanks again, god knows when i'll get out to the range again but when i do, i'll post what i learned/ how it went.
thanks.
